Abstract: A system and method are provided for mounting, removing and retaining brake pads in disc brakes, such as air-operated disc brakes utilized on commercial vehicles, in a manner which does not require the use of separate brake pad retaining devices while providing positive retention of the brake pad. A preferred embodiment includes a brake caliper mount having brake pad abutment surfaces having radially-oriented and lateral grooves which permit a brake pad with corresponding projections on is lateral sides to be inserted through an opening of the brake caliper into the radially-oriented grooves until the backing plate projections are aligned with the lateral groove, and advancing the brake actuator behind the brake pad to place the brake pad in an operating position in which the actuator prevents the brake pad from realigning with the radially-oriented grooves until the actuator is retracted to permit brake pad extraction.

Abstract: A method for patterned deposition of an arbitrary thin film on an arbitrary substrate. A GaAs substrate having a bi-layer structure deposited thereon, the bi-layer structure consisting of a bottom layer of Ge and a top layer of SiN. A photoresist deposited on the top SiN surface of the sample is patterned to form one or more desired patterned features on the sample. The Ge—SiN bi-layer structure on the patterned sample is aniostropically etched so that an undercut is formed in the Ge layer, the SiN forming an overhang over a portion of the GaAs substrate. The remaining photoresist is removed from the sample and the film is deposited on the sample to form a feature on the substrate. The remaining Ge layer is etched away and the SiN layer and film deposited on the SiN layer are lifted from the sample, leaving only the patterned features on the substrate.

Abstract: A housing including a plurality of openings for receiving fiber optic connectors and protecting the polished end face of the connectors from damage while the connectors are stored within a telecommunications connection cabinet. A module with a plurality of optical fiber cables connected to a first optical fiber cable and terminated by a fiber optic connector. Each of the connectors are inserted within openings in a connector holder for storage and protection until the cables need to be connected to a customer equipment cable.

Abstract: An electric machine includes a housing having an outer surface and an inner surface that defines an interior portion. The housing also includes a connection zone having a first end portion that extends from the outer surface to a second end portion that is exposed to the interior portion. The connection zone includes a connection passage. A terminal block extends through the connection passage. The terminal block includes a non-electrically conductive member that is sealed against the connection passage, and an electrically conductive member covered by the non-electrically conductive member. The electrically conductive member includes a first end section that extends to a second end section through an intermediate section. The first end section has a first connection zone and the second end section has a second connection zone. The second connection zone is at an angle relative to the first connection zone.

Abstract: Optical fiber-based wireless systems and related components and methods are disclosed. The systems support radio frequency (RF) communications with clients over optical fiber, including Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) communications. The systems may be provided as part of an indoor distributed antenna system (IDAS) to provide wireless communication services to clients inside a building or other facility. The communications can be distributed between a head end unit (HEU) that receives carrier signals from one or more service or carrier providers and converts the signals to RoF signals for distribution over optical fibers to end points, which may be remote antenna units (RAUs). A microprocessor-based control system or systems may also be employed.

Abstract: A fiber optic connector and cable assembly is disclosed herein. The fiber optic connector and cable assembly includes a cable having at least one optical fiber, a jacket surrounding the optical fiber and at least one strength member for reinforcing the fiber optic cable. The fiber optic connector and cable assembly also includes a fiber optic connector having a main connector body having a distal end and a proximal end. The fiber optic connector also includes a ferrule supporting an end portion of the optical fiber. The ferrule is mounted at the distal end of the main connector body. The fiber optic connector further includes a spring for biasing the ferrule in a distal direction and a spring push for retaining the spring within the main connector body. The spring push is mounted at the proximal end of the main connector body. The spring push includes a main body and a stub that projects proximally outwardly from the main body.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium for generating a manufacturing-usable easily modifiable product order document is presented. An object collection of objects that describe features of components of a product is created. A view database that describes a logical relationship among components in the object collection is also created. A single document that includes the object collection and the view database is then generated. This single document can be updated according to technical requirements for a product being manufactured according to a product description created from the single document.

Abstract: A modular shelving system comprises a first upright, a second upright, first and second rails, and a rail spanner. The first upright includes a first body and a first cleat having a base portion secured in the first body. The second upright includes a second body and a second cleat having a base portion secured in the second body. Each of the first and second rails defines an upper cleat hole and a lower cleat hole. The first cleat of the first upright is slidably received in the upper and lower cleat holes of the first rail, and the second cleat of the second upright is slidably received in the upper and lower cleat holes of the second rail. The rail spanner extends between the first and second rails and includes first and second retaining claws each connected to the rail spanner.

Abstract: Generally described, a content alignment service may generate content synchronization information to facilitate the synchronous presentation of corresponding audio content and textual content. In some embodiments, portions of body text (as opposed to front matter, such as a table of contents; or back matter, such as an index) in the textual content are identified and synchronized with corresponding audio content. In one example application, an audiobook may be synchronized with an electronic book. As the body text portions of the electronic book are consumed, corresponding words of the audiobook may be audibly presented.

Abstract: A pendant fixture comprising a first body portion having a threaded stud formed thereon, wherein the threaded stud is configured to receive a spider fitting of a lampshade when the lampshade is installed on the pendant fixture. A second body portion having a first half defining a threaded bore therein and a second half defining a second bore therethrough is rotatably coupled to the first body portion by the threaded stud and bore. A power cord having a first end for mounting to a structure, and a second end that is received through the second body portion second bore provides power to the first body portion. A length of power cord adjacent to the power cord second end defines a flexible and adjustable C-shaped cord portion intermediate the first body portion and the second body portion.

Abstract: An applicator cup for user with a motorized handle for applying cosmetics. The applicator cup includes an applicator configured to apply a liquid or powder substance (e.g., such as cosmetics, makeup, lotion, sunblock, sunscreen, moisturizer, foundation, concealer, eye shadow, blush, bronzer, cream, or any other appropriate substance) to a user's body. The applicator cup may be configured to enable a user to selectively attach the applicator cup to the motorized handle substantially without touching the applicator. The applicator cup is adapted to enable a user to use the applicator cup in combination with a handle, such as a motorized handle, to apply the liquid or powder substances to the user's body.

Abstract: A system and process performed by the system for identifying and tracking perpetrators of any of various types of crimes, including bullying, child pornography, sexual assault and rape, in reports which are anonymously reported to the system. The perpetrators can be of various categories, such as formally convicted, and/or formally charged and not convicted, and/or never been charged or not yet been caught, and therefore are without prior convictions or criminal records and are thereby not on law enforcement's radar. The system and process relies upon the reporting by a victim or a witness of information pertinent to an alleged criminal event. The identity of each reporting victim is never known to the system, unless the victim or witness goes to the police. The system uses a “double blind” method to protect the victim and certain details of the reported incident.

Abstract: A content alignment service may generate content synchronization information to facilitate the synchronous presentation of audio content and textual content. In some embodiments, a region of the textual content whose correspondence to the audio content is uncertain may be analyzed to determine whether the region of textual content corresponds to one or more words that are audibly presented in the audio content, or whether the region of textual content is a mismatch with respect to the audio content. In some embodiments, words in the textual content that correspond to words in the audio content are synchronously presented, while mismatched words in the textual content may be skipped to maintain synchronous presentation. Accordingly, in one example application, an audiobook is synchronized with an electronic book, so that as the electronic book is displayed, corresponding words of the audiobook are audibly presented.

Abstract: A connector system is provided for use in power applications, such as for conveying three phase power in electrical enclosures. The system comprises plug assemblies in which a power conductor is mounted in a floating arrangement with elastically deformable conductive structures extending from either side thereof. A mating receptacle may be mounted on a bus conductor. Three such arrangements may be provided for conveying three phase power. The structures allow for plug-in mating of the system components while accommodating considerable translational and angular misalignment between the connector parts.

Abstract: The invention relates to a capo for use with a stringed instrument. In one aspect, the capo can comprise at least one string compressor, a frame having a longitudinal axis, and a means for individually moving the at least one string compressor that is configured to allow for the individual movement of contact portions of the at least one string compressor from a raised position to a depressed position, which is at a predetermined depth from a bottom surface of the frame. This movement of the string compressor allows for the selective application of pressure to at least one string on the instrument so that, in the depressed position, the contact portion of the selected string compressor presses a selected string among the at least one strings against the fretboard of the stringed instrument.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for connecting a personal mobile device to a vehicle communication unit. The method involves automatically detecting the presence of a personal mobile device located at a vehicle, obtaining permission to connect the personal mobile device, and automatically connecting the personal mobile device to the vehicle communication unit. The method and apparatus can be used, for example, during an initial connection of a personal mobile device to a vehicle communication unit or each time a new mobile device is present in the vehicle.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for locating a parked vehicle using a mobile device. In one embodiment, the mobile device may automatically detect when a moving vehicle is being parked and save its GPS location at that point at the location of the parked vehicle. The mobile device may later output the saved location of the parked vehicle when a user, such as the driver of the parked vehicle, requests the information. In some embodiments, the mobile device may communicate with the vehicle in order to determine when the vehicle is being parked.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of techniques or systems for curriculum assessment are provided herein. One or more assessments can be generated. For example, an assessment can be generated based on one or more forms. In this way, assessments can be created in a structured manner and distributed accordingly. One or more of the assessments may be administered. After one or more students or test takers take the assessments, one or more of the assessments can be analyzed or aggregated. Analysis can include statistical analysis related to one or more similar, related, or associated assessments. In this manner, curriculum assessment can be provided, thereby enhancing teaching efficiency and productivity, etc.
