  • Patent number: 6304969
Abstract: Systems and methods for verifying the authorization of a server to provide network resources to a client. At selected times, the client asserts an authorization interrupt, which will disable some or all non-essential functions of the client unless the server's authorization is verified within an allotted period of time. The client creates a client message by generating a random number and combining it with a client identifier and a value that specifies the current time. The client message is encrypted and sent to the server. Only authorized servers can decrypt the client message and create an encrypted service message that includes the random number. The service message can also contain an authorization code specifying the services that the client may receive, and an expiration count indicating when the authorization procedure will be repeated. The client receives and decrypts the service message.

  • Patent number: 6302975
Abstract: A method for improving the fracture toughness for aluminum-based diffusion coatings by thermal spray means to simultaneously apply aluminum, chromium, boron, and/or silicon onto a steel workpiece, followed by heat treatment of the workpiece for a sufficient time to cause the aluminum, chromium, boron, and/or silicon to diffuse into the workpiece. The resulting diffusion coating demonstrates improved fracture toughness and does not necessitate the use of a slurry.

  • Publication number: 20010029361
Abstract: An orthogonal arterial catheter preferably includes a hub and a cannula. The hub preferably protects the cannula from potential kinking and shearing forces because the cannula upon exiting a patient's body enters the hub. The hub preferably provides a passageway through which the hose travels to a connector piece. The connector piece preferably attaches the device to a fluid line such as an arterial line transducer. In addition, the hub preferably includes a port that provides a channel through which a guide wire or a needle may gain access to the cannula. The hub also may include appendages extending from it to suture to the patient.

  • Patent number: 6300637
Abstract: The ionization efficiency of a mass spectrometer is increased by creating a potential well between the electron source and the electron collector. The potential well is created by applying to the collector a reflection potential having an amplitude which is the same as or substantially the same as the amplitude of the potential applied to the electron source and a polarity which is the same as the polarity of the electron source potential. The potentials applied to the electron source and electron collector are relative to the ionization region effected between the source and collector. Many of the electrons produced by the electron source oscillate back and forth in the potential well thereby allowing those electrons a greater opportunity to interact with sample molecules to thus increase ionization efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6291339
Abstract: A bilayer interlayer dielectric having a spun-on low k gap filled layer is capped with a higher k dielectric layer. Prior to the capping, the spun-on low k dielectric layer is planarized to reduce or eliminate the systematic variation in the relative thickness of the layers due to pattern density effects on the thickness of the spun-on low k dielectric layer. By removing the variations in the relative thickness of the low k dielectric layer and the capping layer, the effective dielectric constant of the uniformly thick composite interlayer dielectric is independent of location on the circuit, preventing differences in circuit speed and the creation of clock skew in the circuit.

  • Patent number: 6291008
Abstract: A ready-to-eat cereal based food product such as flakes desirably exhibiting higher numbers of discernible grain fragments of at least 1 mm2 is provided, as well as processes for preparing said cereal flakes. By having high numbers of discernible grain fragments the flakes exhibit greater consumer appeal as being less highly processed. More specifically, the ready-to-eat cereal flakes are fabricated from cooked cereal dough having at least 20 discernible grain fragments per gram of flakes. Methods for preparing such flakes including a steeping step of cut grain particles having a particle size of 0.5 to 2.5 mm with warm water to have a moisture content of about 20%, short residence time cooking to form a cooked cereal dough such as in a twin screw extruder, long residence time cooking, forming into pellets, drying the pellets, tempering, flaking the pellets and toasting to form the improved speckled R-T-E flake cereal.

  • Patent number: 6289421
Abstract: Intelligent memory devices allow for the transfer of data between two or more electronic devices, such as digital signal processors and microcontrollers. The memory devices may be designed as dual port memory devices capable of sending/receiving synchronous, serial data. The use of serial data reduces the pin count of the memory devices and those connected to it. The memory devices also utilize a dedicated pair of data bits and memory pointers to carry out management of the memory and data transfers allowing connected devices to reduce the amount of processing time spent on such matters.

  • Patent number: 6285278
Abstract: An electronic system monitors a trailer hitch assembly that has a hitch plate with a throat for receiving a kingpin of a trailer and a locking mechanism for locking the kingpin in throat. The system determines whether the trailer hitch assembly is properly coupled to the trailer and includes a trailer sensor, a lock sensor, and a control circuit. The trailer sensor senses the position of the trailer relative to the trailer hitch assembly and the lock sensor senses the position of the locking mechanism. The control circuit is coupled to the trailer sensor and the lock sensor. The control circuit determines whether the trailer hitch assembly is properly coupled to the trailer by taking into account the sequence in which the trailer sensor and the lock sensor sense the respective positions of the trailer and the locking mechanism, as well as, the time periods elapsing between the sensing at such positions.
