  • Publication number: 20160171587
Abstract: Methods and systems for simulating a search, for the purpose of evaluating one or more scoring functions used in ordering item listings for presentation in a search results page are described. Consistent with some embodiments, a simulation platform includes a real-time simulation module that receives search result sets for search queries that result in the conclusion of a transaction. The result set is then processed by the simulation platform with one or more test scoring functions, such that the resulting position of the item listing that has resulted in the transaction can be compared with the actual position at which the item listing was displayed in the actual search results. For each test scoring function, an average rank shift metric is determined, and displayed, thereby providing a metric with which to base decisions about which scoring functions to use in the production system.

  • Patent number: 9354896
Abstract: A first portion of a bootstrapping process is performed for a data storage system. The first portion of the bootstrapping process comprises a hypervisor scanning for and initializing a plurality of physical storage devices of the data storage system, and storing boot information obtained during the scanning and initializing steps. A second portion of a bootstrapping process is performed for the data storage system. The second portion of the bootstrapping process comprises providing at least a portion of the stored boot information to at least one virtual machine implementing an application program that utilizes the plurality of physical storage devices, and the virtual machine initializing one or more virtual resources using the stored boot information provided by the hypervisor. The scanning for the plurality of physical storage devices of the data storage system may be performed in a parallel manner.

  • Publication number: 20160148411
Abstract: A method for automatically identifying the required inputs for software for generating a personalized animatable face mesh generally includes computer processing a two-dimensional image of the subject's face to automatically identify at least one facial landmark on the 2-D image. The at least one identified facial landmark is projected onto at least one feature point on a photogrammetric three-dimensional model of the face. The photogrammetric three-dimensional model of the face is processed by a computer to automatically identify frontal and profile feature points on the photogrammetric three-dimensional model so that all of the required inputs are identified automatically without operator intervention.

  • Publication number: 20160146685
Abstract: The voltages output from a low-pressure MEMS sensor are increased by increasing the sensitivity of the sensor. Sensitivity is increased by thinning the diaphragm of the low pressure sensor device. Nonlinearity increased by thinning the diaphragm is reduced by simultaneously creating a cross stiffener on the top side of the diaphragm. An over-etch of the top side further increases sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 9348421
Abstract: An interactive, zone-based installation enables a user to interact with an object, such as a retail product, an appliance, a food item, a poster, a non-touch screen monitor, an object of nature, or any other of a number of various items. A user approaches the object and reaches for it. The installation displaying the object has a sensor such as a camera. The sensor is coupled to a processor and continuously feeding an image depth buffer stream. Within the field of view of the sensor is a 3D zone. The zone is strategically positioned near or around the object. When a user reaches for the object there is a change in the depth buffer data stream. If this change exceeds time and sensitivity thresholds implying an intentional gesture by the user, an output event is triggered by the processor.

  • Publication number: 20160132842
Abstract: A system and method to associate an electronic gift certificate with a payment services account to cause presentation of the electronic gift certificate based on meeting a predetermined condition. A gift certificate is purchased on-line and associated with a recipient's payment services account by the electronic gift certificate purchaser. A graphical user interface representing the payment services account of the recipient is presented with a record of the electronic gift certificate in a hidden state within the payment services account. Determining the predetermined condition is met, unmarking the record of the electronic gift certificate and causing presentation of a gift certificate button within the user interface representing the payment services account.

  • Publication number: 20150330856
Abstract: The voltages output from a low-pressure MEMS sensor are increased by increasing the sensitivity of the sensor. Sensitivity is increased by thinning the diaphragm of the low pressure sensor device with corner trench. Nonlinearity increased by thinning the diaphragm is reduced by simultaneously creating a cross stiffener to the bottom side of the diaphragm. A rim, anchors, and a stiffener pad can also be added to further stiffen the thinner diaphragm and further reduce pressure nonlinearity.

  • Patent number: 8881596
Abstract: An MEMS pressure sensor is designed to reduce or eliminate thermal noise, such as temperature offset voltage output. The pressure sensor includes a pressure sensing element having a diaphragm, and a cavity formed as part of the pressure sensing element, where the cavity receives a fluid such that the diaphragm at least partially deflects. The pressure sensing element also includes a plurality of piezoresistors, which are operable to generate a signal based on the amount of deflection in the diaphragm. At least one trench is integrally formed as part of the pressure sensing element, and an adhesive connects the pressure sensing element to the at least one substrate such that at least a portion of the adhesive is attached to the trench and redistributes thermally induced stresses on the pressure sensing element such that the thermally induced noise is substantially eliminated.

  • Patent number: 8819719
Abstract: The present invention enables real-time video commenting by viewers of media content on a web site. The media content may be video, audio, text, still images or other types of media content. When a content viewer indicates a desire to provide a real-time video comment, a content server causes a video input device at the content viewer's location to be activated. The content viewer's video comment is captured by the video input device and transmitted to the content server, where it is stored and associated with the video being commented upon. When the original video is subsequently presented to content viewers, indicia of the video comment such as a thumbnail or description of the comment is also presented, thus inviting content viewers to view the video comment in addition to the original video.
