  • Patent number: 7739596
Abstract: Systems and methods have been developed for displaying contextually relevant advertisements to users as media objects are being rendered. One or more data sources with contextual information for different portions of each media object are maintained. From this contextual information, keywords may be generated and used to locate contextually-related advertisements. The advertisements are selected based on contextual information about the media object in order to match or otherwise be contextually relevant with the media content being rendered. As the subject matter of the media object changes during rendering, different advertisements related to the new context are provided that replace the prior advertisement. The advertisements are displayed in an area that could be used for other purposes when the rendering device is not rendering media objects.

  • Patent number: 7657675
Abstract: A method of dynamically allocating the amount of input/output (I/O) rate capacity to partitions in a computer system includes determining a total amount of I/O rate capacity and an economic value of each partition within the partitioned computer system. The economic value is defined as a performance-valued product established for each partition wherein the sum of all performance-value products for each partition defines a total economic value for the computer. The I/O rate to be allocated to each partition is calculated to be a portion of the total amount of I/O rate capacity where the portion allocated to each partition is proportional to the economic value of that respective partition. The calculated rate allocations are recorded in memory which is accessible to each partition. After recording, each partition regulates its I/O usage according to the recorded allocation.

  • Publication number: 20090163177
Abstract: Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for providing a user interface for guest communication and information delivery. The user interface is provided on a computing device located in, for example, a guest's hotel room. The computing device is part of a system that can include internal and external networks, webportals, e-mail modules, document modules, and information storage modules. The guest uses the user interface to perform tasks that might otherwise require multiple resources. Guests may make telephone calls, send electronic messages, receive electronic messages, have electronic messages received by the hotel forwarded to other e-mail addresses, browse the Internet, and/or retrieve information on hotel services using the same computing device.

  • Patent number: 7506041
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securely managing managed appliances such as keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) switches using a network communication protocol is described. A client workstation initiates a management session by establishing a secure sockets layer connection with the appliance over a predefined TCP port number. This secure management protocol is used to manage appliances that support SNMP by tunneling SNMP protocol requests through the presently-described protocol. The protocol includes a login sequence to enhance the security of data transmitted according to the protocol. The workstation can read and set object identifiers in the managed appliance. The workstation can also read and write files to and from the managed appliance. In addition, a single managed appliance can have multiple management sessions open at one time.

  • Patent number: 7320581
Abstract: A stabilized filament drawing device for a meltspinning apparatus. The stabilized filament drawing device applies a high-velocity flow of air to attenuate the filaments, which are discharged from a device outlet in a discharge direction. The filament drawing device includes multiple inclined guides adjacent to the outlet that cause the high-velocity flow of air to deviate from the discharge direction by the Coanda effect. The filaments, which are entrained in the high-velocity process air, likewise deviate from the discharge direction. The guides are arranged such that spaces are absent between adjacent guides.

  • Publication number: 20070292948
Abstract: Chimeric nonhuman mammals useful as inducible spontaneous cancer models are disclosed. The nonhuman mammals are obtained by introducing one or more genetically modified embryonic stem (ES) cells into an early stage embryo, and then implanting the manipulated embryo into a surrogate mother. The ES cells contain a recombinant oncogene, and also may contain a genetic mutation that deletes or inactivates a tumor suppressor gene. Models of different types of cancer are produced by introducing different combinations of genetic mutations into the ES cells that are introduced into the early stage embryo.
