Patent number: 10763191Abstract: Systems and apparatus are provided for thermal cooling of integrated circuits, such as dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs). The apparatus includes a plurality of rows pieces that include individual leaf springs. Each of the leaf springs can exert compression to support thermal contact and a stable coupling with a received DIMM. The plurality of row pieces can be assembled to form a single structure, having a space to receive an individual DIMM for insertion. Further, each of the leaf springs are structured to allow a portion of its surface, having a conductive material disposed thereon, to support transfer of heat away from the DIMM at a point of thermal contact. The apparatus can be coupled to a printed circuit assembly (PCA) having additional cooling mechanisms installed thereon, in a manner that allows the additional cooling mechanisms to be integrated with the apparatus and provide increased thermal cooling for the DIMMs.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2019Date of Patent: September 1, 2020Assignee: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Development LPInventors: John Franz, Harvey Lunsman, Steven Dean

Patent number: 9651080Abstract: A method for joining a plastic part to a second part with an insert adapted to thread into the plastic part. The insert includes a longitudinal body with outer threads, a hole in the longitudinal body with female threads, and an annular flange. Protrusions and recesses on the bottom of the annular flange alternate in a radial pattern. The insert is threaded into an opening in the plastic part. The protrusions and recesses of the insert interact with the plastic part to resist over rotation of the insert. The opening in the plastic part may include a hole and a counter bore portion. The counter bore includes protrusions and recesses. The protrusions and recesses alternate in a radial pattern. When the insert is threaded into the opening, the protrusions and recesses of the insert interact with the protrusions and recesses of the plastic part and resist over rotation.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2015Date of Patent: May 16, 2017Assignee: Custom-Pak, Inc.Inventors: Steven Dean Eggers, Ronald A. Patent number: 9477592Abstract: A high performance computing (HPC) system includes computing blades having a first region that includes computing circuit boards having processors for performing a computation, and a second region that includes non-volatile memory for use in performing the computation. The regions are connected by a plurality of power connectors that convey power from the computing circuit boards to the memory, and a plurality of data connectors that convey data between the first and second regions. The power and data connectors are configured redundantly so that failure of a computing circuit board, a power connector, or a data connector does not interrupt the computation. A method of performing such a computation, and a computer program product implementing the method, are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2013Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Silicon Graphics International Corp.Inventor: Steven Dean

Patent number: 9268684Abstract: A high performance computing (HPC) system includes computing blades having a first region that includes processors for performing a computation, and a second region that includes non-volatile memory for use in performing the computation and another computing processor for performing data movement and storage. Because data movement and storage are offloaded to the secondary processor, the processors for performing the computation are not interrupted to perform these tasks. A method for use in the HPC system receives instructions in the computing processors and first data in the memory. The method includes receiving second data into the memory while continuing to execute the instructions in the computing processors, without interruption. A computer program product implementing the method is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2013Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: Silicon Graphics International Corp.Inventors: Steven Dean, David R. Collins, Paul Kinyon
