  • Patent number: 8289864
Abstract: Based on application information received from a Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) device, a Radio Network Controller (RNC) or similar device may select a dormancy timer value to optimize the use of network resources. In particular, the RNC may set an additional dormancy timer based on a default value or a rough determination of the application by examining port numbers. After the DPI device has received a sufficient number of packets to identify the underlying application, the DPI device may then propagate the application information to the RNC. Based on this application information, the RNC may determine the most efficient dormancy timer and modify the value of the default timer based on this determination.

  • Patent number: 8270058
Abstract: Techniques for producing higher fidelity interferometer measurements by reducing sensitivity to spurious sources include reducing the coherence length of an electromagnetic beam. In addition, multiple surfaces within an optical system may be measured by electronically tuning the position of a coherence plane along the optical paths of an interferometer. A phase modulator is used in conjunction with a long coherence length electromagnetic source to generate beams for each leg of an interferometer. Providing a controlled broadband RF signal to the phase modulator increases the bandwidth of the beam and thereby reduces the coherence length of the beam. This reduces the spurious contributions to the output interference fringes from undesired surfaces along the beam path.

  • Publication number: 20120187861
Abstract: Illuminated pushbutton switches are improved by replacing the traditional time delay relays, Boolean interface logic or driver components often incorporated within interface wiring and harnesses with a subminiature electronic logic module located within the illuminated pushbutton switch housing. This Logic Module provides numerous additional benefits beyond the standard illuminated push button switch by incorporating functional capability such as pulse timing, edge detecting or Boolean logic that allow the unit to replace external electro mechanical relays, diode logic, or time delay relays that are typical in current applications. These additional features provide enhancements by allowing lower size and weight, longer switch life, no electrical spikes, remote set and reset capability, display blinking, and high reliability electronic driver circuits that can drive modest electrical loads.

  • Patent number: 8181109
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing Unicode support in legacy operating systems are provided. With the apparatus and method, a focus hook module, keyboard hook module, and keystroke conversion module are registered with the legacy operating system. The focus hook module determines the currently active application and whether the currently active application is Unicode capable. The keyboard hook module receives keyboard events from an input interface and sends those keyboard events to the keystroke conversion module. The keystroke conversion module converts the keyboard events into Unicode characters which are sent back to the keyboard hook module. The keyboard hook module then stores the Unicode characters in a temporary storage memory, e.g., the clipboard. The keyboard hook module then sends a command to the application to paste the contents of the temporary storage memory to the currently active application.

  • Publication number: 20120106395
Abstract: In an example embodiment, a method and system is provided to determine and advertise a route advertisement in a reactive routing environment. In response to receiving a network address query with respect to a destination address at a routing device, an aggregate value, e,g, an address prefix, is determined and advertised in reply to the network address query. Determining of the aggregate value may comprise identifying within a range of network addresses represented by the aggregate value respective addresses for which the routing device does not have reachability information. The routing device may send address queries with respect to the identified addresses, to determine reachability via the routing device of those addresses. The aggregate value may be advertised conditional upon determining that a percentage of addresses within the corresponding range that can be reached via the routing device satisfies a predefined minimal coverage value.

  • Patent number: 8159941
Abstract: In various exemplary embodiments, a Deep Packet Inspection device is integrated into a provider edge router associated with a user agent client or provided externally. The DPI device monitors the exchange of packets between an originating proxy and a user agent client and inspects the packets to identify SIP control messages. By monitoring the messages exchanged between the two devices, the DPI device may determine the type of application, desired QoS, source, destination, and other information related to the connection. Using this information, the router may then access a policy database to determine whether there is a QoS policy for the application and/or user. Based on this determination, the router may initiate network reservation for an anticipated data flow or store the information so the flow of packets can be remarked as the packets arrive. Accordingly, in various exemplary embodiments, the edge router is aware that QoS should be granted.
