  • Patent number: 7385839
Abstract: Structures and methods for operating the same. The structure includes (a) a substrate; (b) a first and second electrode regions on the substrate; and (c) a third electrode region disposed between the first and second electrode regions. In response to a first write voltage potential applied between the first and third electrode regions, the third electrode region changes its own shape, such that in response to a pre-specified read voltage potential subsequently applied between the first and third electrode regions, a sensing current flows between the first and third electrode regions. In addition, in response to a second write voltage potential being applied between the second and third electrode regions, the third electrode region changes its own shape such that in response to the pre-specified read voltage potential applied between the first and third electrode regions, said sensing current does not flow between the first and third electrode regions.

  • Publication number: 20080127999
Abstract: A control user interface for laundry appliances, such as a clothes dryer or washing machine, enables a user to control multiple modes of operation and a variable associated with at least one mode of operation by manipulating a single control element. In one arrangement, the variable is time and multiple time increments are associated with at least one mode of operation. One embodiment includes a rotatable single control knob. Upon detecting the rotation of the control knob, a determination is made whether the currently selected operation mode has associated operation times to be presented to the user. If no associated operation times are presented, the user interface display is updated to reflect the next mode of operation. The operation mode and operation times may be part of different display region within the dryer control user interface.

  • Publication number: 20080126566
Abstract: An apparatus and method is described for dynamically aligning clocks in independent clock domains with minimal latency. In the preferred embodiments, a reference clock in the destination clock domain that is some multiple times the data clock of the destination clock domain is used to sample a data sample signal from the source domain. The sampled data is used to determine at what time slice of the reference clock the data sample signal is changing and therefore at what phase of time slice or phase of the data clock the clocks can be aligned to ensure valid data will be transferred between clock domains.

  • Patent number: 7374793
Abstract: A method for synthesizing carbon nanotubes and structure formed thereby. The method includes forming carbon nanotubes on a plurality of synthesis sites supported by a first substrate, interrupting nanotube synthesis, mounting a free end of each carbon nanotube to a second substrate, and removing the first substrate. Each carbon nanotube is capped by one of the synthesis sites, to which growth reactants have ready access. As the carbon nanotubes lengthen during resumed nanotube synthesis, access to the synthesis sites remains unoccluded.

  • Patent number: 7373378
Abstract: Method, apparatus and article of manufacture for acquiring a buffer after data from a remote sender (e.g., client) has been received by a local machine (e.g., server). Because the client data has already been received when the buffer is acquired, the buffer may be sized exactly to the size of the client data. In general, the buffer may be caller supplied or system supplied.

  • Publication number: 20080107212
Abstract: A method for implementing phase rotator circuits and phase rotator circuit of the invention includes a polyphase filter network to create a quadrature phase version of the input signal. The polyphase filter network is partitioned into a first part that is physically isolated from the phase rotator circuit and a second part that is embedded in the phase rotator circuit. The second part of the polyphase filter is coupled to the first part of the polyphase filter by a high-pass equalizing buffer stage. The second part of the polyphase filter is coupled to the phase rotator circuit by a bandlimiting buffer stage.

  • Publication number: 20080092725
Abstract: A vibratory countermine system and method associated with a propulsion means. The system is comprised of a ground-contacting percussion system assembly that is mounted to the front of the propulsion means. Also, a vibratory subassembly is mounted inside the ground-contacting percussion assembly for inducing vibrations in the ground. The ground-contacting percussion system is in contact with the ground ahead of the propulsion means. It transmits the vibrations, associated forces, and pressure waves below or ahead of the countermine system through the ground, thereby inducing the detonation of land mines.

  • Patent number: 7359432
Abstract: An arrangement to enable automatic baud rate speed negotiation between transceivers having different operating speed characteristics is implemented. When an event indicative of a possible baud rate mismatch occurs, control signals are generated and used to trigger a baud rate negotiation procedure. In the baud rate negotiation procedure, a predetermined pattern is transmitted, the baud rate of the respective transmitting transceiver is decoded, and the decoded baud rate is used to select an appropriate filtering for the transceiver.

  • Publication number: 20080078527
Abstract: A fan attachment is provided to attach a fan assembly to a cap of a heat exchanger. The fan attachment includes a feature to manage wires going to the fan motor, a notch for a thermister to sense temperature, snap hooks to be engaged by receiving tabs of the cap, a keying shear load feature to radially align the fan attachment and cap, and Z-height tolerance springs to bias the fan attachment away from the cap. The cap has features to interact with those of the fan attachment, including receiving tabs. The fan attachment may be manually aligned and forced so that the snap hooks are received and engaged by the receiving tabs. Additionally, the snap hooks and keying feature are, in combination, capable of supporting fan and attach mechanism in an undamaged condition during 25 g-force shock to the heat exchanger.

  • Publication number: 20080052074
Abstract: A method, and a system to execute this method is being presented for the identification and separation of sources of an acoustic signal, which signal contains a mixture of multiple simultaneous component signals. The method represents the signal with multiple discrete state-variable sequences and combines acoustic and context level dynamics to achieve the source separation. The method identifies sources by discovering those frames of the signal whose features are dominated by single sources. The signal may be the simultaneous speech of multiple speakers.
