  • Patent number: 5732331
Abstract: A portable radio includes a main housing having a first electrical circuit and a flip portion having a second electrical circuit. The flip portion is rotatively mounted with a hinge to the main housing for positioning the flip portion between a close position and an open position. The hinge includes a slot connected to the main housing and a rod connected to the flip portion. The slot includes a rod securing position where the rod is secured within the slot and a rod non-securing position where the rod is attachable and detachable from the slot to allow the flip portion to be detached from and reattached to the main housing. The radio further includes an electrical coupler mechanism that couples the first electrical circuit in the main housing with the second electrical circuit in the flip portion. The electrical coupler mechanism includes contacts that are freely separated from one another such that the electrical coupling mechanism is not damaged during the detachment and reattachment of the flip portion.

  • Patent number: 5721392
Abstract: The pyrotechnic ignition device of this invention comprises a hollow tubular coiled charge of pyrotechnic sheet material defining an ignition initiation position, the internal diameter of the charge decreasing and the wall thickness increasing over at least a portion of the charge extending from the initiation position in the direction of burning. This configuration enhances the reliability of ignition and the rate of flame development.Preferably the adjacent plies of the coiled charge are spaced apart. The preferred coiled charge also has a portion downstream from the initiation position in the direction of burning which decreases in external diameter and wall thickness in a direction extending away from the initiation position, the configuration of this portion being effective to enhance the speed and violence of burning of a main gas-generating propellant charge ignited by the coiled charge.

  • Patent number: 5721458
Abstract: The capability of base power units which have phase switching capabilities which can be controlled upon sensing the power condition and status of other base power units is taken advantage of to provide a modular scalable power assembly. The base power units, which are preferably identical, are inserted into a plurality of slots so as to be pluggable into a circuit backplane which automatically provides the requisite interconnections between the base power units. The power assembly of the present invention is particularly useful in supplying power to scalable parallel processing computer systems.

  • Patent number: 5691239
Abstract: A transfer metal configuration and fabrication process possessing increased probability of intersecting a transverse metallization level are presented, without employing an increase in actual metal thickness. The transfer metal is configured with a non-rectangular transverse cross-section such that the thickness of the electrical connect remains the same, but the transverse contact area of the exposed metal is increased. The entire transfer metal may have the same transverse cross-sectional configuration or have portions with different transverse configurations. If different configurations are employed, each portion of the transfer metal to be transversely intersected has the enhanced cross-sectional configuration. A tiered transverse configuration is presented which facilitates electrical connection of the transfer metal to a metal level on a face of a semiconductor cube structure.

  • Patent number: 5664043
Abstract: An optical fiber hermetic feed-through for polarization maintaining fibre has, contained within a hollow metallic plug, a ceramic ferrule that is a concentricity providing sliding fit around the fiber and serves to hold the fiber centered in an aperture in the end wall of the plug. The fiber is secured with adhesive in the bore of the ferrule which is similarly secured within the plug. An hermetic seal between plug and fiber is provided by a soft solder fillet whose short length and circular symmetry minimises the stress applied to the fibre by the freezing of the solder and thereby minimises the degradation of the polarisation maintaining properties of the fibre.

  • Patent number: 4102490
Abstract: An identification means placed adjacent the test tube cavities in a centrifuge rotor. The identification means utilizes recessed or indented indicia which are positioned on a circular ring raised above the generally flat top surface of the rotor. The identification indicia are used for identifying or labeling each of the test tube cavities in the rotor. The raised nature of the ring eliminates the possible establishment of weak points or areas in the top surface of the rotor during centrifugation.

  • Patent number: 4080175
Abstract: A centrifuge test tube cap assembly for sealing a thin walled test tube used primarily with a vertical tube rotor. The cap assembly is designed for convenient and easy removal from the test tube through the use of internal means which activates the direct sealing and unsealing of the cap with respect to the test tube. The mechanism of the tube cap provides for convenient removal of the cap assembly from the test tube which is necessary in order to insert or remove the liquid to be subjected to centrifugation.

  • Patent number: 4076170
Abstract: A test tube cap assembly for centrifuge rotor tubes. A stem member slidably moves within a crown member to exert a direct force on a bushing to securely grip the upper portion of a test tube located within the crown member. The stem member and the bushing have generally mating frustoconical surfaces to provide a wedging action on the upper portion of the test tube. The wedging action serves to not only seal the tube, but also support the upper end of the test tube by restraining the centipetal side of the tube from pulling away from the cap. The operation of the cap assembly is enhanced by the hydraulic forces exerted from within the test tube by the contained liquid.
