Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provides devices, systems and methods that overcome certain deficiencies in the prior art. One exemplary embodiment of the invention comprises an integrated system for providing video and data services to a customer premises. The integrated system comprises a digital broadcast satellite receiver, a data source, and an integrated network interface device. The integrated network interface device can be coupled to the receiver and/or the data source, and the integrated network interface device can be configured to receive video information from the receiver and data (e.g. Internet Protocol data) from the data source. In accordance with certain embodiments, the integrated network interface device can further be configured to distribute the data to the customer premises via a first internal transport medium and/or distribute the video information to the customer premises via a second internal transport medium.

Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for invoking virtualized network functions. In some embodiments, a programmable service backbone might comprise at least one virtualized network function, and might provide virtualized network functions required to provision a service offering. In some cases, at least one application programming interface might be configured to invoke the at least one virtualized network function of the programmable service backbone. An application programming interface gateway might be configured to manage access to the at least one application programming interface, and the application programming interface gateway might comprise a security layer.

Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for providing service provider cloud services. In some embodiments, a virtualized service equipment (“VSE”), in communication with a cloud service network, might establish communications with a central controller over a network, register with the central controller, and receive a configuration file having a base configuration (which might cause the VSE to retrieve and display a cloud service marketplace having a service offering(s)). The VSE might also receive a selection of the service offering(s) and transmit the selection of the service offering(s) to the central controller. A network controller in communication with the VSE might provision cloud network resources, as part of a programmable service backbone, to provide the selected service offering(s). An app controller in communication with the VSE might setup app services on the VSE and the programmable service backbone based on the selected service offering(s).

Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are utilized or implemented for providing a cloud services marketplace. In some embodiments, a method might include providing an index of product offerings for selection. The index of product offerings including at least one product offering, each of the at least one product offering in the index of product offerings including a respective qualifier. The method might also include receiving a customer selection of one or more product offerings among the at least one product offering, and providing at least one network service needed to provision the one or more customer selected product offerings based on the respective qualifier. The at least one network service might be associated with at least one virtualized network function. The method might further include provisioning network resources to perform the at least one virtualized network function, based on the respective qualifier.

Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for remotely configuring and orchestrating multifunctional cloud devices located on customer premises, in some cases, using a smart cloud adaptive device. In some embodiments, the smart cloud adaptive device, which might have one or more wireless programmable radios configured to communicate with a network termination device, might communicate with a cloud configuration server over a network via the one or more wireless programmable radios (and, in some embodiments, through the network termination device). The smart cloud adaptive device might transmit device identification information associated with a customer and/or service codes indicative of services to be provided to the customer. The smart cloud adaptive device might receive one or more configuration files from the cloud configuration server based on the service codes, and enable functionality among a plurality of functionalities to provision the services, based on the one or more configuration files.

Abstract: Methods, systems, devices, and software are disclosed for generating a network usage profile. Certain embodiments of the network usage profile include a devices-by-node profile, indicating the set of customer devices available for use in communicating with a customer-side network node located at a customer side of an access network over a period of time, where some of the customer devices are not in operative communication with the customer-side network node during a portion of that time. Other embodiments associate the network usage profile with customer information to generate device-by-customer profiles. Still other embodiments associate the network usage profile with network traffic information to generate traffic-by-device profiles. Even other embodiments associate the multiple sources and types of information to generate traffic-by-customer profiles and/or traffic-by-device-by-customer profiles.

Abstract: A captive portal service offering system includes an advertising server hosting at least one captive portal service offering page, a registration server configured to provide user account information associated with a user account, and an interface device associated with the user account. The interface device is configured to retrieve, from the registration server, user account information. Based on the user account information, the interface device determines whether to present the at least one captive portal service offering page to the at least one client device. In response to the determination, the interface device directs at least one client device to the at least one captive portal service offering page. The interface device receives a user selection of the network service offered by the at least one captive portal service offering page and transmits the user selection to the registration server.

Abstract: Tools and techniques for transmitting utility usage data. In some cases, the tools receive utility usage data provided by a utility meter and transmit that data for reception by a utility provider. In particular cases, the utility usage data may be received at a network interface device. The network interface device might, in some instances, include a broadband modem, such as a digital subscriber line modem, which can be used to transmit the utility usage data to the utility provider.

Abstract: Methods, systems, devices, and software are disclosed for providing controlled access to network characteristic data stored at a subscriber premises. In one embodiment, Internet services are provided to a subscriber through a subscriber's modem, connected to the Internet through an access network, and to a number of data terminals on a local network. The modem is adapted to receive and/or generate data from the connected networks and devices for use in generating network characteristic data. This data is stored in an access-controlled data storage module. Content providers may then login to the modem and query network characteristic data. The modem is configured to authenticate the content provider, and, if authorized and available, return the queried data to the content provider. The content provider may then communicate information to the subscriber's data terminal through the modem, according to the network characteristic data returned by the query.

Abstract: Tools are provided for distributing access-restricted content in an internet protocol television (“IPTV”) environment based on portable entitlement keys. Such tools can include a decoder, an encoder, and a network entitlement handler. The decoder may be configured to receive a key associated with entitlement information, and transmit the entitlement information over a network. The encoder may be configured to receive content from content providers, and to encode the content to create IP-compatible content, with access restrictions based on entitlement. The network entitlement handler may be configured to receive a request for requested content from the decoder; receive the access-restricted content including (including the requested content) from the encoder; and transmit the requested content over the network to the decoder using IP, when the decoder is entitled to receive the requested content.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention provide novel apparatus, methods and systems for providing relatively high-speed bandwidth to enable, inter alia, video transmission services over media previously unable to support such services. In accordance with certain embodiments, a device located at the telecommunication service provider can logically couple two or more physical media to provide a single, consolidated source of bandwidth, which can be used to transmit data, which can represent a video signal. In accordance with other embodiments, a device located at the subscriber's location can be used to receive the data from each of the two physical media and recreate the video signal from the data, such that the video signal can be transmitted to a display device, such as a television, monitor, etc.

Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing automated cloud expansion and ordering. Implementing automated cloud expansion and ordering might include monitoring cloud services and hardware operated by a cloud service provide. In some cases, monitoring may be periodically performed, while in other cases monitoring may be triggered by ordering of new cloud services by a subscriber. Based on a determination that hardware utilization is likely to exceed a predetermined threshold amount, the system might determine a number and type of new equipment, and to automatically generate and send purchase orders to vendor(s) for the new equipment. The system may also send work orders to technicians that include the site location, rack and slot identifiers, estimated equipment delivery dates and times, or the like. The system might also remotely (over a network) install software (including operating systems, software applications, and configuration files) on the new equipment.

Abstract: A method of playing a rich content stream that includes a media stream and a descriptive stream. The method may include the steps of receiving the rich content stream at a media player, where the descriptive stream is generated from a rich content file executed separately from a source for the media stream, and where the media stream and the descriptive stream are received as separate streams at the media player. The method may also include synchronizing the media stream and the descriptive stream at the media player so that information in the descriptive stream is temporally synchronized with media content playing from the media stream. In addition the method may include activating the playing of the descriptive stream while the media stream is playing on the media player, where descriptive content from the descriptive stream is not played on the media player until being activated by a user.

A determination is made whether the extracted data is associated with one or more alert profiles.
