Publication number: 20220266169Abstract: This tool utilizes orthogonality concepts used for analytical chromatography and apply them to chromatography for downstream processing applications utilizing a small set of product-agnostic, optimally orthogonal resins with which most separations (capture or polishing) can be accomplished. Libraries of components for separation mediums are provided. The library of components is administered to the separation mediums and combination of the separation mediums at varying pHs, and the separability and orthogonality of each is quantified. The separability is a measure of a probability that the separation mediums will separate a pair of components, whereas the orthogonality is a measure of the enhancement in separability upon addition of another separation medium. By identifying those combinations of separation mediums that not only provide advantageous separability, but also high orthogonality, sets of separation mediums can be more easily provided or wholly designed for use in processing applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2020Publication date: August 25, 2022Applicant: RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTEInventors: Steven M. Publication number: 20140162729Abstract: An accessory for processor-based mobile devices is selectively securely attachable to the mobile device and at least partially wraps around at least one edge of the mobile device, so that a photo-reflective dipolar electronic display incorporated into the outer shell of the accessory can provide a visual platform for sustained image retention with negligible power consumption. Content (e.g., image data) is transmitted wirelessly from the mobile device to the accessory. Electronic and/or electrical components for receiving, directing, decrypting, and displaying images can be incorporated into a resilient sleeve, integrated into a hard shell case, or a combination of the two. Content can originate in the mobile device, or at a remote content server, to periodically update an image on the accessory.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 9, 2013Publication date: June 12, 2014Applicant: Bensussen Deutsch & Associates, IncInventors: Alexander John Garden, Steven M. Patent number: 6575587Abstract: A light that is mounted on a clamp. The clamp is configured to be attached to different locations on a user's body, and is sufficiently sturdy so that it can support the light in an illumination direction that is fixed relative to the user's body. The light is connected by a cord to a power supply, such as a battery pack or an AC adapter. If a battery pack is used, the battery pack may also include a mechanism, such as a clip, for attaching the battery pack to the clothing or belt of a user. A headband is provided to which the clamp may be attached. The light is pivotally attached to the clamp so the light may be pivoted to illuminate in a desired direction. In addition, the light is rotatably mounted on the clamp arm, permitting the light to illuminate in a wide variety of different angles.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2001Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: The Coleman Company, Inc.Inventors: Steven M. Publication number: 20010047086Abstract: An effective technique for the high throughput screening of displacers is described. In this technique, potential displacers are employed to displace a biomolecule (e.g., protein) adsorbed on a chromatographic resin in small-scale batch displacement experiments. The amount of protein displaced from a specific resin by a defined concentration of displacer is determined by monitoring the supermatant for the protein. By evaluating the displaced protein rather than the displacer itself, this technique enables a single detection technique (e.g., absorbance, fluorescence, etc.) to be employed for all batch displacement experiments. By monitoring the amount of protein displaced, the effacy of a large number of potential displacers can be rapidly evaluated. The entire experimental procedure can be carried out rapidly and is thus amenable to high throughput parallel screening of molecules possessing a large range of affinities and physico-chemical properties.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2001Publication date: November 29, 2001Inventors: Steven M. Cramer, Kaushal Rege, Jonathan S. Dordick
