  • Patent number: 7511982
Abstract: A high speed sensing scheme for a non-volatile memory array is disclosed. The memory array includes non volatile memory cells arranged in a complementary bitline configuration includes precharge circuits for precharging the bitlines to a first voltage level such as VSS, a reference circuits for applying a reference charge on the reference bitlines of the complementary bitline pairs, and bitline sense amplifiers for sensing a voltage differential between the complementary bitline pairs. A voltage on the data bitline being changed when a programmed non-volatile memory cell connected to an activated wordline couples the wordline voltage to the data bitline.

  • Publication number: 20090077054
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide techniques for generating predicted cardinality statistics for grouped aggregation functions included in database queries. In general, characteristics of a database query are determined, and are then supplied to a probability function configured to generate a predicted cardinality statistic. The generated statistic represents a prediction of the probable cardinality of the results of a grouped aggregation function in the event that the query is executed. The predicted cardinality statistic may be used by a query optimizer to determine an efficient query plan for executing the database query.

  • Publication number: 20080242810
Abstract: A method of controlling the molecular weight of poly(cyclic) olefin (norbornene-type) polymers and activating the polymerization thereof with a single material is provided. Such method include adding a chain transfer/activating agent to a mixture of monomer(s), catalyst, solvent and an optional cocatalyst and polymerizing the mixture to form a polymer. It is shown that the amount of chain transfer/activating agent in the mixture can serve to control the molecular weight of the resulting polymer, its percent conversion or both, and in some embodiments the optical density of the resulting polymer.

  • Publication number: 20080065609
Abstract: A method and system for publishing a plurality of books for user access to information includes selecting a plurality of books, converting each book from a publisher's digital form, e.g., by training a tool to detect characteristic features (such as layout, typeface, and hierarchical or organizational features such as chapter headings, captions, drawings and tables), and extracting text or data information of the book tagged with the features. This produces a searchable library database arranged, for example, as an xml database indexed by book structure such that a user may remotely, over the internet or other network, access the database, search desired content, and view an image of a portion of the book with the desired data. The system includes a user registration module to identify an authorized user, and may maintain a personal bookshelf for the user.

  • Publication number: 20070284516
Abstract: An optical trap (and alignment device) having a light source for generating first and second light beams, and a pair of lenses for focusing the light beams to a trap region in a counter-propagating manner for trapping a particle in the trap region. A light source illuminates the trap region with a third beam of light, and a camera is positioned for capturing a portion of each of the first, second and third light beams. Actuators exert forces on generally rigid portions of optical fiber used to deliver the first and second light beams to the trap region, such that the generally rigid portions pivot about pivot points located at supported members from which the optical fibers extend. Position sensitive detectors measure the position of the beams leaving the optical fibers, and feed position signals back to the actuator drivers to ensure proper positioning of the beams.

  • Publication number: 20070263311
Abstract: A shift code that consists of N-symbol code words is provided as an L-symbol “master sequence” in which no sub-sequence of N symbols repeats, where L?SN and S is the number of code symbols. A decoder determines a location in the code from N decoded symbols. The code locations may, for example, correspond to radial positions, or other position, times, and so forth. In one embodiment, the master sequence is continuously written to a data storage disk during a spiral write operation and a reader on a given circular track reads at least N symbols from the portion of the spiral that crosses the track and determines a code word. The radial position of the reader is then determined based on the location of the code word in the code.

  • Publication number: 20070235652
Abstract: A radiant energy imaging system is used to create an electronic image of a person entering a security controlled area to detect weapons or contraband concealed under their clothing. The electronic image is electronically transmitted to a processing center where it is evaluated by a human and/or software algorithms for the presence of concealed objects. The resulting evaluation, consisting of digitally represented information, is electronically transmitted back to the examination site. In one embodiment this processed data is displayed as a graphical outline of the concealed objects superimposed on an optical image of the person. In another embodiment, the processed data is used to control a personnel barrier controlling access into the security controlled area. In another embodiment a network allocation server selectively routes the electronic images from two or more body scanners to two or more processing centers.
