Abstract: A system for metering and dispensing single and plural component liquids and solids as described herein. The dispensing system has a microprocessor-based control system and volumetrically efficient non-reciprocating pumps which provide a very accurate control of component ratios, shot sizes, flow rates and dispense durations. The dispensing system maintains constant pressure between the output of the pump and the dispense head. The progressive cavity pump is formed from individual, interlocking pressure sections, each of which has a double helix bore. A rotor is inserted into the double helix bore with an interference fit. The dispense head has no dynamic fluid sealing surfaces and instead uses bellows as a sealing mechanism. The dispensing system includes a simple, easy to use calibration procedure and a weight scale. The system also has numerous feedback components for accurately controlling the pressure, flow rates, fluid levels and amounts of fluids dispensed.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for smoothing out high frequency information in an interlaced computer generated display. A computer generated RGB signal is converted into a YUV signal, which is separated into its Y, U, and V components. The Y component is convolved by averaging a current scan line with a line above and a line below the current scan line so that black lines are lightened and white lines are darkened, thus avoiding flicker. Since convolution is only performed on the Y part of the YUV signal, only two line buffers, each having a width equal to the number of bits in the Y component only, are required.

Abstract: A base station arrangement including an antenna array is disclosed, wherein the uplink signals are weighted with complex array weights and the downlink signals are steered, wherein the downlink signals are steered using data from directional information derived from the uplink signals. A method of operation is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for transferring data between a host computer and peripheral storage including the steps of: (a) receiving data from the host; (b) determining if an escape command is present in the data; (c) writing the data to the a peripheral storage medium if a escape command is not present in the data; and (d) performing as least one command relative to the peripheral storage if a escape command is present in the data. Also disclosed is a method for controlling a disk drive unit including the steps of: (a) determining on a host computer a current action to be performed with a disk drive unit; (b) formatting a track of a disk engaged with a disk drive unit based upon output data provided by the host computer if the current action is a formatting action; (c) writing a sector on the disk based upon the output data provided by the host computer if the current action is a writing action; and (d) reading a sector of the disk and transferring input information to the host computer if the action is a reading action.

Abstract: A self-identifying scheme which permits a variety of integrated circuit semiconductor memory modules to inform a host processor as to each individual memory accessing speed or accessing time. Pre-encoded circuits within each memory module generate a coded signal when that module is selected by the host processor. The coded signal identifies the type of memory accessed, permitting the host processor to transfer information at a rate determined by the memory accessed.

Abstract: A power manager within a portable laptop computer provides power and clocking control to various units within the computer in order to conserve battery power. Transistor switches controlled by the power manager control the distribution of power and/or clock signals to the various units within the computer. The power manager includes a software routine for continually monitoring the various units and when these units are either not needed and/or not currently in use, power and/or clock signals are removed from a given unit.

Abstract: A fluid connector system including a modified plumbing union having a rotatable member for drawing said union into a fluid tight condition. A drive tool is electric motor actuated and includes a reduction gear train providing an output gear engaging an integral peripheral spur gear on the rotatable member. A housing member attached to the connector assembly provides coaxial alignment for an interface socket on the drive tool. A hand lever actuated latching system includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced latching balls selectively wedged against the housing member attached to the connector assembly or to secure the drive tool to the connector assembly with its output gear in mesh with the integral peripheral spur gear. The drive motor is torque, spped and direction controllable.

Abstract: A camera support collar or ring for releasable attachment to the upright post of a photographic camera assembly support which includes a clamping means with an adjustable collar made up of first and second semi-circular segments with a threaded screw means secured to one of the segments for releasably holding the segments in post-gripping disposition at a predetermined elevation on the camera receiving post. A radially extending housing extends outwardly of one of the semi-circular segments and releasably retains a camera position locking pin therein, with the locking pin being arranged for axial movement to an elevation above the upper surface of the collar for engagement with a camera assembly mounted upon the upright post above the upper surface of the adjustable collar, thereby permitting the user to reposition the camera assembly following movement from a prescribed or desired position.

Abstract: Disclosed is a thumb support for the human hand comprising a support piece having a cradle portion installable around the thenar eminence and the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb and a tab portion wrappable over the thumb/index web space. When the cradle portion and tab portion are properly installed, they create a frustoconically shaped cone portion which acts to enclose the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb and isolate the index finger and the thumb and support the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb.

Abstract: A robotic gripper for transporting an object such as a disk-shaped integrated circuit wafer by contacting and gripping only its edge surface. The robotic gripper includes a plurality of elongated fingers which are joined together at a central location from which they project outward in the shape of the letter "X" to their fingertips. Each fingertip may be individually extended outward from or retracted inward to the edge surface of the object to be transported. To adapt the fingertips for grasping the edge of disk-shaped integrated circuit wafers, each fingertip is formed with a projecting lip having a V-shaped notch into which a wafer's edge surface is received while it is being gripped. Each finger includes a bellows through which a cable communicates force from a remote motor to the fingertip. A housing encloses cables and gears used to move the cable.
