    Abstract: The present invention relates to the preparation of a new class of materials, namely, an acrylate terminated or end-capped urethane/urea copolymer containing silicone soft segments capable of dual cure via unsaturated groups and dialkoxyl silanol groups. This new class of material is a reaction product of a partially methacrylated end-capped urethane polymer containing hard segment blocks and an amino alkylene dialkoxy end-capped siloxane block polymer, containing soft-segments. The aminoalkylene dialkoxysilane end-capped siloxane segment of this copolymer can include siloxane diol segments of various molecular weights (e.g., 1,000 to 20,000) end-capped with various alkylaminoalkylene trimethoxy silanes. This copolymer is therefore capable of dual cure via these functional groups.

    Abstract: Curable (meth)acrylate adhesives are formulated with aliphatic urethane (meth)acrylate resins. The resins are urethane (meth)acrylate capped polyols wherein the urethane acrylate capping is derived from isophorone diisocyanate and a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate and the polyol is an oligomeric aliphatic diol or triol having a number average molecular weight of from about 1500 to about 3500. The hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate may be hydroxy ethyl acrylate. The polyol may be a member selected from the group consisting of polyoxypropylene triols, polyTHF diols, polycaprolactone/polyTHF block copolymers, and polycaprolactone diols. The adhesives give good adhesion to common DVD substrate materials, and display excellent corrosion resistance in dissimilar metal bonding applications.

    Abstract: A curable thiol-ene composition specially adapted for use as a primary coating on optical fibers comprises a polythiol and a compound having a plurality of norbornene groups thereon, are characterized in that one of either the compound having the plurality of norbornene groups or the polythiol has a backbone of a poly(tetramethylene oxide), or is an oligomer thereof, and the poly(tetramethylene oxide) has a molecular weight of between 250 and 5,000. The formulations are relatively low viscosity liquids at practical application temperatures and cure substantially completely with very low irradiation fluence. The formulations cure in ambient air. There is no need to exclude oxygen or to control humidity. The formulations of the invention can be cured using low intensity UV lamps which do not generate significant amounts of heat. The cured products have excellent low temperature flexibility, good humidity and water absorbtion resistance and good thermal oxidative stability.

    Abstract: A polysiloxane comprising a linear polydiorganosiloxane chain joined at one terminus to an acrylic-functional end group, and joined at its other end to a cross-linked MTQ moiety comprising a multiplicity of monofunctional siloxane units (M), trifunctional siloxane units (T), and tetrafunctional siloxane units (Q), wherein the concentration ratio of M units to the sum of T units and Q units, M/(T+Q), in the MTQ moiety is from about 0.55 to about 0.75, and wherein the number of siloxy repeating units in the linear polydiorganosiloxane chain is from 25 to 1,000. The M and or /T units may also contain (meth)acrylate groups. The MTQ/silicone hybrid resins of the invention are curable by UV radiation, to provide high tensile strength silicone compositions having utility in potting and conformal coating apllications.
