  • Patent number: 9999117
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for lighting control. For example, a user may commission a touch-controlled luminaire (106) to emit light output having various lighting properties dependent on a manner in which the touch-controlled luminaire is touched subsequently. In particular, a user may use an electronic mobile device (102) such as a smart phone, tablet computer, or a wearable computing device (e.g., computing glasses, smart watches) to associate a touch event profile indicative of a manner in which a touch-controlled luminaire was touched (e.g., tapped, swiped, etc.) with a lighting control action. The user may then provide that association to the touch-controlled luminaire. When the touch-controlled luminaire is later touched in the same manner, it may adjust its light output in accordance with the lighting control action. Operation and commission of gesture-controlled luminaires (706) is also described herein.

  • Publication number: 20180155196
Abstract: High quality, catalyst-free boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) that are long, flexible, have few wall molecules and few defects in the crystalline structure, can be efficiently produced by a process driven primarily by Direct Induction. Secondary Direct Induction coils, Direct Current heaters, lasers, and electric arcs can provide additional heating to tailor the processes and enhance the quality of the BN-NTs while reducing impurities. Heating the initial boron feed stock to temperatures causing it to act as an electrical conductor can be achieved by including refractory metals in the initial boron feed stock, or providing additional heat via lasers or electric arcs. Direct Induction processes may be energy efficient and sustainable for indefinite periods of time. Careful heat and gas flow profile management may be used to enhance production of high quality BNNT at significant production rates.

  • Publication number: 20180155124
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a new and improved compactor or packer. The compactor, which may be used to compact refuse, includes a container, a track disposed within the container, and a ball screw rotatably disposed within the track. The compactor further includes a ball nut operatively coupled around the ball screw, where rotation of the ball screw causes the ball nut to move along or traverse the ball screw. A packer blade is coupled to the ball nut via a floating interface. Movement of the ball nut long the ball screw due to rotation of the ball screw forces the packer blade to move within the container. The floating interface allows the packer blade to float within the container with respect to the ball nut to reduce the likelihood of binding of the ball nut on the ball screw as the packer blade traverses within the container.

  • Publication number: 20180156193
Abstract: A mastless vertical axis wind turbine that comprises a plurality of sails that rotate about a vertical axis under the influence of wind. A platform is connected to and in tension with the plurality of sails at one or more points about the bottom of the plurality of the sails. Also, an external frame is connected to and in tension with the plurality of sails at one or more points about the top of the plurality of the sails. The external frame itself comprises a plurality of legs that converge above the plurality of sails at a central point about the vertical axis of rotation and extend beyond the path swept by the plurality of sails. A coupling mechanism connects one or more of the plurality of legs to the plurality of sails and allows the sails to rotate about the vertical axis of rotation while the legs remain stationary.

  • Publication number: 20180155640
Abstract: A process for reducing the sulfur content of FCC naphtha is described. The process includes introducing a FCC naphtha feed to a selective hydrogenation zone to form a hydrogenated feed. The hydrogenated feed is separated into light fraction and a heavy fraction. The heavy fraction is introduced into a selective hydrodesulfurization zone to form a desulfurized stream which contains mercaptans.
