  • Publication number: 20180157144
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments relate to lateral migration of particles in a totally internally reflective displays. In certain embodiments, the reflective image displays include partial and full walls to form partitions within the display. The walls mitigate diffusion and lateral migration or drift of electrophoretically mobile particles due to lateral electric fields at adjacent pixels. This improves image quality, bistability and long-term display performance.

  • Publication number: 20180156396
Abstract: An example apparatus embodiment includes a flashlight operable from a primary electric storage battery and from another battery having an external casing that has a different outer diameter and possibly a different overall length than the primary battery. In some embodiments, a battery adapter extends a battery compartment to hold a longer substitute battery. In other embodiments a batter adapter holds a battery with a dimension, for example a diameter of the battery case, that is too large to allow the battery to slide into the battery compartment. Another example embodiment includes a battery adapter without a flashlight.

Abstract: Systems and methods for capturing audio which can be used in applications such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality systems. Some systems may include a plurality of distributed monitoring devices in an environment, each having a microphone and a location tracking unit. The system can capture audio signals while also capturing location tracking signals which indicate the locations of the monitoring devices over time during capture of the audio signals. The system can generate a representation of at least a portion of a sound wave field in the environment based on the audio signals and the location tracking signals. The system may also determine one or more acoustic properties of the environment based on the audio signals and the location tracking signals.

  • Publication number: 20180159565
Abstract: A military communications unit that utilizes a relatively high-bandwidth digital communication networks (e.g., cellular networks) is capable of acting as a wireless communications hub for a soldier, vehicle, weapon, or other entity. The military communications unit can obtain data from multiple devices via close-range wireless technologies and communicate with training or operational networks. The military communications unit can be flexible in its capacity to relay data by formatting data in accordance with Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), High-Level Architecture (HLA), and/or another distributed computer simulation standard. Moreover, the military communications unit may be further capable of “re-banding,” enabling communications using cellular protocols and/or standards in non-cellular frequency bands.

The methods include receiving a data processing task to be executed on data including a plurality of data records, the data having an associated record description including information relating to parameters or attributes of the plurality of data records. Based on the received data processing task, the record description is analyzed to determine an indication of expected workload for the data records. Further, the data is divided into a plurality of data sets. Based on the determined indication of expected workload for the data records, the data sets are allocated processing threads for parallel processing by a multi-threaded processing arrangement.
