  • Publication number: 20150166362
Abstract: A counter-flow simultaneous heat and mass exchange device is operated by directing flows of two fluids into a heat and mass exchange device at initial mass flow rates where ideal changes in total enthalpy rates of the two fluids are unequal. At least one of the following state variables in the fluids is measured: temperature, pressure and concentration, which together define the thermodynamic state of the two fluid streams at the points of entry to and exit from the device. The flow rates of the fluids at the points of entry and/or exit to/from the device are measured; and the mass flow rate of at least one of the two fluids is changed such that the ideal change in total enthalpy rates of the two fluids through the device are brought closer to being equal.

  • Publication number: 20150169397
Abstract: An aspect is a method that includes receiving (k0?1)k1+k2 write data symbols, where k2<k1. The write data symbols are arranged in an array that includes k0?1 rows of length k1 followed by a row of length k2. The first k2 columns are encoded to form a partially encoded array using a vertical error correcting code of length m, m>k0, resulting in k2 columns of length m including the write data symbols and vertical parity values. The k0?1 rows of the write data symbols of length k1 and the m?k0+1 rows from the partially encoded array are encoded into an encoded array of m rows of length n columns, n>k1 including at least one parity value in each of the m rows, thereby enabling correction of up to (n?k1)/2 errors in any row and up to (n?k2)/2 errors in up to m?k0+1 rows of the encoded array.

  • Publication number: 20150172143
Abstract: Network traffic information from multiple sources, at multiple time scales, and at multiple levels of detail are integrated so that users may more easily identify relevant network information. The network monitoring system stores and manipulates low-level and higher-level network traffic data separately to enable efficient data collection and storage. Packet traffic data is collected, stored, and analyzed at multiple locations. The network monitoring locations communicate summary and aggregate data to central modules, which combine this data to provide an end-to-end description of network traffic at coarser time scales. The network monitoring system enables users to zoom in on high-level, coarse time scale network performance data to one or more lower levels of network performance data at finer time scales.
