  • Publication number: 20250242280
Abstract: Methods are provided for defoaming water used in processing of various products such as cellulose or wood-based products or in food processing which is formed by reacting a fatty acid with a compound selected from the group consisting of ammonia, sodium, potassium and combinations thereof so as to form a water soluble soap, dispersing the water soluble soap in water and homogenizing the dispersed water soluble soap with hydrophobic oil or hydrocarbon oil to produce the emulsion. Methods for preparing an emulsion used in this process are also provided. The emulsion is advantageous in that it can improve water resistance and/or reduce the use of water resistant additives during processing of cellulose or wood-based products or food-grade products.

  • Publication number: 20250243073
Abstract: Embodiments relate to methods for producing a high purity sodium silicate. The present application relates to a distinct pattern in elemental removal of various sodium silicate solutions, as sodium silicate solutions prepared at high SiO2 to Na2O mass ratios display better elemental removal than sodium silicate solutions prepared at low SiO2 to Na2O mass ratios. Methods therefore include at least (a) providing a biogenic silica; (b) adding the biogenic silica to a first solution (e.g., sodium silicate solution or caustic soda solution); (c) separating undissolved silica form the solution via dissolution to obtain an intermediate solution; and (d) conducting ultrafiltration on the intermediate solution to obtain the high purity sodium silicate.

  • Publication number: 20250246098
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for simulating increased intracranial pressure in a medical patient. The system includes a simulated skull that is rigid and defines a cavity. Within the skull cavity are a pressure vessel and a liquid vessel that contains a liquid. The pressure vessel and liquid vessel are expandable and positioned adjacent to each other. A pressure regulator allows a user to change pressure within the pressure vessel. Pressure in the liquid vessel increases based on increased pressure in the pressure vessel. The liquid vessel connects to a collection container via a tube that passes through an access port in the skull, which simulates a hole that would be drilled into a patient's head. A transducer measures pressure in the liquid vessel and communicates pressure data to a display.
