  • Publication number: 20070035330
Abstract: An FPGA is laid out as a plurality of repeatable tiles, wherein the tiles are disposed in columns that extend from one side of the die to another side of the die, and wherein each column includes tiles primarily of one type. Because substantially all die area of a column is due to tiles of a single type, the width of the tiles of each column can be optimized and is largely independent of the size of the other types of tiles on the die. The confines of each type of tile can therefore be set to match the size of the circuitry of the tile. Rather than providing a ring of input/output blocks (IOBs) around the die periphery, IOB tiles are disposed in columns only. Where more than two columns worth of IOBs is required, more than two columns of IOB tiles can be provided.

  • Publication number: 20060267618
Abstract: An integrated circuit (IC) includes multiple embedded test circuits that all include a ring oscillator coupled to a test load. The test load either is a direct short in the ring oscillator or else is a interconnect load that is representative of one of the interconnect layers in the IC. A model equation is defined for each embedded test circuit, with each model equation specifying the output delay of its associated embedded test circuit as a function of Front End OF the Line (FEOL) and Back End Of the Line (BEOL) parameters. The model equations are then solved for the various FEOL and BEOL parameters as functions of the test circuit output delays. Finally, measured output delay values are substituted in to these parameter equations to generate actual values for the various FEOL and BEOL parameters, thereby allowing any areas of concern to be quickly and accurately identified.

  • Publication number: 20060180444
Abstract: Structure and method for forming a switchable shunt for a suspension assembly having conductive, insulating and metal base layers. The shunt includes a bridge in the conductive layer with either a continuous connection or small gap between ends of the bridge. The continuous connection of the bridge is severed either by temporarily moving the lands out of their original plane by stretching and rupturing the bridge or by shearing the continuous connection of the bridge. For the sheared or gapped bridge, at least one end of the bridge is moved out of plane, compressed and elongated. When released, the separated ends of the bridge overlap and contact each other to form a normally-closed switch. To subsequently open the switchable shunt, at least one of the lands is moved out of plane to physically and electrically open the connection between the separated and overlapped ends of the bridge.

  • Publication number: 20060146457
Abstract: An output driver having electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection is disclosed. The output driver includes a first gain transistor, a second gain transistor, a capacitor and a resistor. The first gain transistor provides a first stage gain, and the second gain transistor provides a second stage gain. The capacitor, which is connected to the first and second gain transistors, provides a compensation function between the first and second gain transistors during normal operations. In response to an occurrence of an ESD event at the output of the output driver, the capacitor turns on the second gain transistor The resistor, which is also connected to the first and second gain transistors, returns the second gain transistor to normal operations after the occurrence of an ESD event.

  • Publication number: 20060106076
Abstract: The proliferation of uterine fibroid leiomyoma cells is inhibited by certain Fibroid Cell Growth Inhibitor (FGI) agents. Pharmacological doses of FGI agents can be made high enough to not only inhibit proliferation, but to cause cell death. Non-invasive or minimally invasive, non-systemic delivery methods deliver the FGI agent to the target fibroid leiomyoma cell population, thereby avoiding the disadvantages and side effects of surgical and systemic hormonal therapy interventions for treatment of uterine fibroids. The FGI agents are substrates normally present and well tolerated in humans. The efficacy of the FGI agents relates to their ability to moderate Protein Kinase C and Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase pathways. Specific FGI agents shown to be useful to inhibit growth of uterine fibroid cells include: ?-tocopherol, ?-tocopherol succinate, and troglitazone. Delivery of FGI agents to the target uterine fibroid cells may be accomplished by intra-vaginal and in situ injection techniques.

  • Publication number: 20060003551
Abstract: In accordance with a specific embodiment, a method of processing a semiconductor substrate is disclosed whereby the substrate is thinned, and the dice formed on the substrate are singulated by a common process. Trench regions are formed on a backside of the substrate. An isotropic etch of the backside results in a thinning of the substrate while maintaining the depth of the trenches, thereby facilitating singulation of the die.

  • Patent number: 6983252
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an interactive human-machine interface, which includes an input device and comprises a set of states. The set of states form a network through which data can be passed as a token. In a dialogue control unit, future states are assessed to determine allowable user inputs that may be received from the user. Each portion of the user input is stored in an associated node of the token, for use in the current state or in another of the active states. Each node is checked to see if it relates to the current state, and if so, then the portion of the user input stored in the node is processed.

  • Publication number: 20050255516
Abstract: A method for determining an unknown starting quantity of a target nucleic acid sequence in a test sample comprises the steps of amplifying the unknown starting quantity of the target nucleic acid sequence in the test sample and known starting quantities of a calibration nucleic acid sequence in respective calibration samples; and determining a respective threshold value for each of the nucleic acid sequences using a derivative of a growth curve derived for the sequence. The starting quantity of the target nucleic acid sequence in the test sample is determined using the threshold value determined for the target sequence and a calibration curve derived from the threshold values determined for the known starting quantities of the calibration nucleic acid sequences. The invention also provides methods for determining a starting quantity of a nucleic acid sequence in a sample using quantitative internal controls or using internal standards.

  • Publication number: 20050236565
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for identifying analytes at low concentrations in a liquid sample. The liquid sample is introduced through a continuous flow membrane inlet system. The analytes that permeate the membrane are analyzed by photoionization-time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The analytes remaining in the liquid sample that do not permeate the membrane are conducted to a capillary tube inlet that introduces the liquid sample and other analytes as droplets into the photoionization zone. Any analytes remaining absorbed or adsorbed on the membrane are driven through the membrane by application of heat. Analytes may be analyzed by either resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) or single photon ionization (SPI), both of which are provided in the apparatus and can be selected as alternative sources.
