  • Publication number: 20070279405
Abstract: A plasma display and a driving device therefor. In a sustain discharge driving circuit that includes a power recovery circuit and a sustain voltage supply circuit, a transformer is used. The transformer includes a primary coil and a secondary coil that are coupled with each other. The primary coil of the transformer is connected in parallel to a panel capacitor serving as a capacitive load so as to increase a change of a voltage that is applied to an inductor, such that a voltage rising period and a voltage falling period are reduced. With the reduction of the turn-on time of a switch, the power consumption of the switch is reduced. Further, as the inductor initially stores current, the occurrence of hard switching is reduced when a sustain discharge voltage is applied and elements of the circuit are protected.

  • Publication number: 20060109213
Abstract: A plasma display panel and a method thereof is described. A frequency of a sustain pulse varies according to a screen load ratio in each subfield or frame. The frequency of the sustain pulse is determined such that power consumption of the plasma display panel, which is a function of the active power and the reactive power of the sustain pulse, is minimized. When the screen load ratio is increased, the frequency of the sustain pulse is increased since the decrease of the active power is increased and the reactive power is maintained.

  • Publication number: 20060077128
Abstract: A plasma display device and a method for driving the plasma display device. Only some row electrodes are addressed in a sub-field having the smallest weight to reduce the luminance of the sub-field having the smallest weight. Only odd-numbered row electrodes are addressed in an odd-numbered frame and only even-numbered row electrodes are addressed in an even-numbered frame in the address period of the sub-field with the smallest weight. The length of the sustain period of a sub-field having the second smallest weight is identical to the length of the sustain period of the sub-field having the smallest weight. Then, the ratio of the luminances of the two sub-fields is increased by twice to improve representation of lower gray scale.

  • Patent number: 6977830
Abstract: Provided is a power supply apparatus which includes a comparator, an output voltage adjusting unit, a controller, and an output unit. The comparator compares a sensed AC input voltage to a reference voltage and outputs one of first through third comparison result signals. The output voltage adjusting unit outputs one of first through third output voltage level adjustment signals for changing the feedback output voltage level according to one of the comparison result signals. The controller outputs a switching signal. The output unit outputs a predetermined voltage by regulating and smoothing an input voltage induced to a secondary coil of a transformer by the switching signal. By adjusting the output voltage of a boost converter according to the input voltage, efficiency is increased because there is less power loss of the switching component, and the hold-up time may be adjusted even in a case of low AC input voltage.

  • Patent number: 6958761
Abstract: A method of processing image data to generate output image data for driving a display panel is provided. In the method, a new resolution for input image data is set according to a resolution of the display panel. A first virtual screen is divided into a plurality of pixel areas according to the new resolution set for the input image data. A second virtual screen having a sub-pixel array structure of the display panel is superimposed on the first virtual screen. A mask wider than a sub-pixel area on the superimposed second virtual screen is laid on each sub-pixel area. An area ratio of the area of each pixel portion on the first virtual screen included in each mask to the area of the mask is obtained and set. The new resolution and the area ratios are applied to a driving device of the display panel. The input image data having an original resolution is transformed into image data having the new resolution.
