  • Publication number: 20160328845
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for cervical image analysis, wherein a transformation zone is identified in an acetic acid image by registering with its Lugol's iodine counterpart. Then, regions in the transformation zone which show significant changes in whiteness are identified as aceto-white regions and registered with the corresponding Lugol's iodine image, and it is determined if the identified regions in the Lugol's iodine image are iodine negative or positive. Based thereon, the aceto-white region can be categorized as one of metaplasia, inflammation or premalignant lesion region.

  • Patent number: 9305204
Abstract: A method and system to detect the microcalcifications (MC) in different type of images viz. X-ray images/mammograms/computer tomography with varied densities using nonlinear energy operator (NEO) is disclosed to favor precise detection of early breast cancer. Such Microcalcifications are associated with both high intensity and high frequency content. The same NEO output is useful to detect and remove the irrelevant curvilinear structures (CLS) thereby helps in reducing the false alarms in micro calcification detection technique. This is effective on different dataset (scanned film, mammograms with large spatial resolution such as CR and DR) of varied breast composition (viz. dense, fatty glandular, fatty), demonstrated quantitatively by Free-response receiver operating characteristic (FROC). Importantly, the method and apparatus of the invention can be used in conjunction with machine learning techniques viz.

  • Publication number: 20160058362
Abstract: The invention provides a system (100) for acquiring cervical images which comprises an image acquisition subsystem (120) for acquiring cervical images (122) of a cervical region of a patient during a colposcopy procedure, and a display subsystem (160) for displaying the cervical images on a display (060) by providing image data (162) of the cervical images to the display. According to the invention, the image acquisition subsystem (120) is arranged for, when operating in an interval mode, acquiring the cervical images (122) at predetermined time intervals to obtain a time-series of cervical images showing changes in the cervical region over time, and reporting a progress of said acquiring to the display subsystem. Moreover, the display subsystem (160) is arranged for establishing a progress indicator (400-416) on the display by generating indicator data (164) and providing the indicator data to the display (060), the progress indicator providing visual feedback on the progress of said acquiring to a user.

  • Publication number: 20140227682
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method or system for the detection of abnormalities in a biological sample comprising cells. Said method or system comprises at least the following steps, or is capable to carry out, and/or comprises means capable to carry out, at least the following steps, respectively: a) acquiring an image of said sample by digital image acquisition, b) optionally, carrying out digital image processing, c) selecting a field of view, d) determining, by digital image processing, whether or not, in said field of view, cell aggregates exist, and e1) selecting a new field of view and carrying on with step c) if, in step d), it turns out that, in said field of view, the determination of cell aggregates is negative, or e2) carrying out further process steps if in step d), it turns out that, in said field of view, the determination of cell aggregates is affirmative.
