  • Patent number: 8060760
Abstract: Modular information handling systems supported in a modular chassis, such as blade information handling systems, have power allocation managed by dynamic and automated prioritization of power application to each modular information handling systems. A priority list of modular information handling systems is generated and updated by analysis of priority factors discovered from the modular information handling systems, such as with periodic polling of the modular information handling systems or detection of predetermined events at the information handling systems.

  • Publication number: 20110264935
Abstract: Power from a modular chassis to plural modular information handling systems contained by the chassis is dynamically allocated according to power consumed at each modular information handling system and a priority associated with each modular information handling system. A power manager of the modular chassis allocates power by setting a maximum power for each modular information handling system based upon a priority for each modular information handling system. A power monitor on a modular information handling system requests additional power allocation if power consumed is within a predetermined amount of the maximum power for that system. The power manager allocates additional power in response to the request if another modular information handling system has excess power allocated or if the requesting modular information handling system has a higher priority than another modular information handling system.

  • Patent number: 7805533
Abstract: A method for communicating with remote devices wherein the method includes sending a request through an application programming interface (API), formatting the request and routing the request to a first connection associated with a first protocol. The method further includes mapping the request into a first command, wherein the first command conforms to the first protocol and sending the first command to a remote device.

  • Publication number: 20100192145
Abstract: A method for out-of-band installation and provisioning of an operating system in an information handling system is provided. The method may include sending an OS installation request to a management controller, which may include an internal persistent storage Furthermore, the method may include selecting a selected OS driver pack in response to the OS installation request and exposing the selected OS driver pack to a target server. Finally, the method may include installing the OS with the selected OS driver pack onto the target server.

  • Publication number: 20100100733
Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing problems and disadvantages associated with provisioning of information handling systems, including without limitation those associated with bare metal provisioning of information handling systems, are disclosed. A system may include a processor, and a memory and an access controller each communicatively coupled to the processor. The access controller may store an enterprise public key associated with an enterprise private key and a platform private key associated with the system.

  • Publication number: 20100038963
Abstract: A method for wear leveling in an information handling system including multiple power supply units (PSUs) is provided. The method includes maintaining each PSU in one of multiple different operational states, collecting data relating to the use of each PSU, storing the collected data, and automatically changing the operational state of at least one of the PSUs based at least on the collected data regarding the use of each PSU in order to level the wear on the PSUs.

  • Publication number: 20090204826
Abstract: A system and method for enabling power conservation when making placement and relocation decisions. More specifically, a virtualized environment power conservation module enables power conservation when making placement and relocation decisions within a virtual environment. The virtualized environment power conservation module assigns virtual machines among a group of physical hosts in order to minimize the net power consumption. The virtualized environment power conservation module makes use of server power profile or real time power consumption data to make power consumption aware Virtual Machine assignment decisions. In certain embodiments, a server system exposes real power consumption (e.g. System Watts, Cumulative kWh. etc.) via system management interfaces. Additionally, in certain embodiments, the server systems may expose real power consumption via standard power profiles. These systems leverage PMBus-enabled power supplies to read the power metric information.

  • Publication number: 20090189774
Abstract: A power topology determination system includes a management engine. A power line communication device is coupled to the management engine. A first power device is coupled to the power line communication device through a power line connection. The power line communication device is operable to retrieve first power device information from the first power device and the management engine is operable to provide the first power device information for power topology display.
