  • Patent number: 10949539
Abstract: A method may include determining if both of two redundant operating system images for executing functionality of a chassis management controller were found during one or more previous boot sessions of the chassis management controller to be unsecure, wherein each operating system image comprises an integrated kernel and initial file root system stored in a respective first partition of a memory of the chassis management controller, verity hashes of a root file system of such operating system image, the verity hashes stored in a respective second partition of the memory, and the root file system of such operating system image stored in a respective third partition of the memory. The method may also include, in response to determining that one of the two redundant operating system images is secure, initiate verification of such operating system image to determine if such operating system image has indicia of tampering.

  • Publication number: 20210034550
Abstract: An expander I/O module discovery/management system includes a secondary system chassis housing an expander I/O module coupled to a server device. The server device identifies the secondary system chassis and an expander I/O module port utilized by that server device, and then generates and transmits an expander I/O module reporting communication identifying the secondary system chassis and the expander I/O module port. A primary system chassis houses a switching I/O module coupled to the expander I/O module. The switching I/O module receives the expander I/O module reporting communication and determines that the secondary system chassis identified in the expander I/O module reporting communication is different than the primary system chassis. In response, the switching I/O module assigns a virtual slot to the expander I/O module, and assigns a virtual port associated with the virtual slot to the expander I/O module port identified in the expander I/O module reporting communication.

  • Patent number: 10880163
Abstract: An information handling system for managing equipment in a datacenter captures image data when a field of view of an imaging system includes a server rack, determines a bounding box of the server rack based upon the image data, determines slot locations in the bounding box, establishes a wireless communication link with an element of datacenter equipment via the wireless communication interface, determines an identity of the element based upon an identification message sent to the element via the wireless communication link, determines one of the slot locations based upon the identity, receives configuration information from the element via the wireless communication link, and displays an augmented reality overlay on the display over the image data. The augmented reality overlay co-locates a first image object associated with the first element with the one slot location and includes the first configuration information.

  • Patent number: 10817397
Abstract: Embodiments provide for supporting management of an unrecognized device operating as a component of an IHS (Information Handling System). An unrecognized device operating on the IHS is detected. The unrecognized device is probes for determining properties of the unrecognized device. The unrecognized device is monitored for characteristic communications that are indicative of a type of device. A signature of the unrecognized device is generated based on the probed properties and the monitored communications of the unrecognized. Based on the generated signature, a device pack is created that supports management of the unrecognized device. A device pack may include instructions used by a remote access controller of the IHS for management of the unrecognized device. The created device pack may be generated based on monitoring keys supported by firmware of the unrecognized device. The remote access controller may probe and monitor the unrecognized device.

  • Patent number: 10791024
Abstract: Within a data center, network interfaces may vary greatly. Network controllers from various manufacturers may support different capabilities and may be implemented as different types of hardware devices. Embodiments provide techniques for adaptive configuration of a network interface that is migrated from a source IHS to a target IHS. A network migration tool evaluates discrepancies between the source network interface configuration and the target network interface configuration. Based on the identified discrepancies, the network migration tool determines whether the target network interface may be adapted to be compatible, or at least not incompatible, with the source network interface. Multiple IHSs may be evaluated as potential targets for migration to identify a target IHS that utilizes a target network interface that most closely aligns with the configuration of the source network interface, where this alignment includes adaptive modifications of the target network interface.

  • Publication number: 20200296088
Abstract: Embodiments provide secure discovery of a first IHS operating within a plurality of IHSs (Information Handling Systems), such as within a data center, by a remote management tool. The remote management tool is registered with a DNS (Domain Name System). Upon initializing a first IHS, that first IHS is not automatically recognized by the remote management tool. A remote access controller of the first IHS retrieves information from the registration of the remote management tool from the DNS. The remote access controller notifies the remote management tool of the initialized first IHS. The notification is transmitted, by the remote access controller, to a network address specified in the DNS registration information of the remote management tool. The remote management tool confirms the authenticity of the notification provided by the remote access controller and configures the first IHS for remote management.

  • Publication number: 20200278274
Abstract: Administration of IHSs (Information Handling Systems) within a data center results gradual drift of the configuration parameters of the individual IHSs such that the IHSs may no longer be in compliance with data center policies, such as policies in support of security and disaster recovery procedures. Embodiments provide techniques for distributed determination of drift within a network of managed IHSs, in which each managed IHS is provided with baselines for the configuration parameters utilized by each managed IHS. Using the provided baselines, each managed IHS identifies discrepancies between its current configuration and the applicable baselines. Based on discrepancies reported by the managed IHSs, a management console evaluates drift within the network of managed IHSs and determines when to trigger remediation procedures in order to correct the drift.

  • Publication number: 20200252302
Abstract: An information handling system for managing equipment in a datacenter includes a display, a wireless communication interface, and an imaging system configured to capture image data from within a field of view of the imaging system. The information handling system shows the image data on the display, and provides an augmented reality overlay on the display over the image data. The augmented reality overlay locates an element of datacenter equipment that needs to be serviced. The information handling system further determines that the element is within the field of view, establishes a wireless communication link with the element via the wireless communication interface in response to determining that the element is within the field of view, and receives an instruction to service the element from a remote service system in response to establishing the wireless communication link.

  • Publication number: 20200250430
Abstract: An information handling system captures image data when the field of view of an imaging system includes an element of datacenter equipment, establishes a wireless communication link with the element, receives identification information from the element to distinguish the element from other elements of datacenter equipment that are visibly indistinct from the element, displays the image data on a display of the information handling system, matches a portion of the image data with an image object associated with the visibly indistinct elements, determines an identity of the element based upon the image object and the identification information, and displays an augmented reality overlay on the display over the image data. The augmented reality overlay co-locates the image object with the portion and includes the identity over the portion, and sends the identity to a datacenter management system via the second communication interface.

  • Publication number: 20200253079
Abstract: An information handling system for identifying equipment in a datacenter establishes a wireless communication link with an element of datacenter equipment, and receives identification information from the element. The identification information distinguishes the element from other elements of the datacenter equipment that are visibly indistinct from the first element. The information handling system further captures image data when the field of view of an imaging system includes the element, displays the image data on a display, matches a portion of the image data with an image object associated with the first and second elements, determines an identity of the element based upon the identification information and the image object, and displays an augmented reality overlay on the display over the image data. • Publication number: 20200252388
Abstract: An information handling system for providing comprehensive remote authorized access to multiple equipment in a datacenter. A mobile device security credential is first authenticated before access information is configured in the mobile device using a short-range wireless interface. The configured access information is mapped to the equipment and the corresponding access token and encryption keys from the equipment are received by the mobile device. The mobile device uses the access token and the encryption keys to simultaneously access the equipment through a long-range wireless interface. The simultaneous access includes parallel accessing of the equipment at a next accessing instance without requiring re-authentication. With the accessed equipment, the mobile device manages the accessed equipment based on the configured access information.
