  • Patent number: 8367462
Abstract: In a method for growing a nanowire array, a photoresist layer is placed onto a nanowire growth layer configured for growing nanowires therefrom. The photoresist layer is exposed to a coherent light interference pattern that includes periodically alternately spaced dark bands and light bands along a first orientation. The photoresist layer exposed to the coherent light interference pattern along a second orientation, transverse to the first orientation. The photoresist layer developed so as to remove photoresist from areas corresponding to areas of intersection of the dark bands of the interference pattern along the first orientation and the dark bands of the interference pattern along the second orientation, thereby leaving an ordered array of holes passing through the photoresist layer. The photoresist layer and the nanowire growth layer are placed into a nanowire growth environment, thereby growing nanowires from the nanowire growth layer through the array of holes.

  • Patent number: 7986627
Abstract: A signaling method is provided that can improve the efficiency of forward-link control signaling in OFDM systems. The method involves using a set of forward-link subcarriers that are dedicated for control information, and are shared by a set of two or more users. The control information destined for each user is spread using a respective spreading code, thereby to provide a spread control message. The spread control messages destined for the various users are summed together prior to transmission.

  • Patent number: 7961683
Abstract: An active session mobility solution for point-to-point protocol (PPP) in accordance with the present invention provides fast and smooth handoff by reducing tunneling overhead on tunneling mechanisms, such as P-P tunneling from a serving Source (e.g., a PPP termination device) to a new serving Target (e.g., a PPP termination device). In the active session mobility solution of the present invention, PPP session can be migrated even if not all phases have been completed (e.g., LCP, PAP/CHAP completed but not IPCP and CCP). In such cases, the incomplete phases will be negotiated at the PPP of the Target PPP.

  • Patent number: 7821995
Abstract: An active session mobility solution for radio link protocol (RLP) in accordance with the present invention defines two RLP migrations states. A first state is defined as a forward-link RLP state and depicts the communication of data from a home agent to an access terminal in an IP network. A second state is defined as a reverse-link RLP state and depicts the communication of data from the access terminal to the home agent in the IP network. In one embodiment of the seamless active session mobility solution for RLP in accordance with the present invention, a two-stage RLP transfer process for the migration of the two defined states from a source to a target is implemented. In a first stage, the forward-link RLP state is transferred from a source to a target. In a second stage, frame selection and the reverse-link RLP are transferred from the source to the target.

  • Patent number: 7738422
Abstract: A method of scheduling and sub-channelization is provided for a wireless network such as an OFDMA network. Distributed coordination is applied across sectors, such neighboring sectors will tend to schedule cell-edge users at the same time, while sub-channelizing to different portions of the full frequency band available for forward link transmissions. This tendency is achieved by dividing each sector's users into user classes which depend upon forward link channel quality. Each user class is assigned a different set of priorities for use of available timeslots and subcarriers.

  • Patent number: 7676223
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention, a method for controlling a communications session with a mobile device is provided. The method comprises selecting a plurality of base stations, where at least a portion of the base stations are adapted to operate as a secondary agent, and wherein the secondary agent is capable of communicating with a mobile device. Substantially similar data is then delivered to a plurality of the secondary agents, and a first one of the secondary agents is selected as a first serving secondary agent to communicate with the mobile device. The first serving secondary agent transfers the data to the mobile device during the communications session.

  • Patent number: 7515927
Abstract: A closed loop power control based on receiving a continuous quality feedback is described. A main reverse link (RL) pilot is controlled by the quality feedback of a substantially continuous delay sensitive traffic stream, such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP), when such a stream is enabled. When such a stream is not enabled, the quality of a continuous RL overhead channel is used to control the pilot power. At the same time, the Traffic-to-Pilot Ratios (TPR) of contemporaneously transmitted delay sensitive data streams are independently adjusted based on a quality feedback associated with each such data stream.

  • Patent number: 7509240
Abstract: A selective laser sintering technique and system are provided for producing a heterogeneous product. The selective laser sintering technique and system is generally comprised of generating a computer model of the product and processing the model to obtain numerous cross-sectional representations of the model. The cross-sectional representations are manufactured layer by layer to create the product. Specifically, numerous different powders having a variety of properties are placed within nozzles positioned above a deposition bed using a hopper. Using the computer model as a guide, the different powders are placed at different positions on the deposition bed to form each layer of the device. The deposited powders are consolidated, micromachined, and milled using one or more lasers to create the product.

  • Patent number: 7499437
Abstract: A method for controlling a wireless communications system is provided. A plurality of substantially identical base stations, each capable of being operated as both a primary agent and a secondary agent are deployed. The secondary agent is capable of communicating with a mobile device and the primary agent is capable of communicating with a network. A network active set associated with a mobile device is formed from a plurality of the base stations. One of the base stations in the network active set is selected to operate as the primary agent, and it communicates to the other base stations that the selected base station is operating as the primary agent. Thus, communications between the network and the mobile device are routed through the primary agent and the selected secondary agent.

  • Patent number: 7489929
Abstract: A wireless communication network (20) utilizes a hard handoff procedure for switching between cells serving a mobile station (40). In a disclosed example, the existing link between the mobile station (40) and a serving base station (38) is not released until a new link between a target base station (32) and a mobile station (40) is established. At the same time, however, the mobile station maintains only one base station or link within its active set at all times. The disclosed example is useful for dedicated channel and shared channel communications in CDMA systems, for example.
