  • Publication number: 20180279263
Abstract: Various embodiments are described for a trained data transmission for communication systems. A training phase may include a first wireless station exchanging medium reservation messages with a second wireless station to reserve a medium and to select a data transmission parameter. The data transmission parameter may include a modulation scheme and a forward error correction (FEC) coding rate. At least one of the medium reservation messages may include a duration field indicating a duration for which the medium is reserved. A first data phase may include sending data from the first wireless station to the second wireless station according to the selected data transmission parameter. A second data phase may then be performed without first repeating the training phase. The second data phase may include transmitting data from the first wireless station to a second wireless station according to the data transmission parameter.

  • Patent number: 9766121
Abstract: The present application discloses device and system embodiments that address mobile device integration considerations for various categories of UV sensors, including cameras, photodiodes, and chemical sensors. The UV sensors may use the functionalities of the existing in-built sensors in conventional mobile devices, and/or integrate additional components specific to UV sensing. By optimally positioning the sensors, UV sensing and other collateral functionalities (e.g., charging a photovoltaic cell integrated with the mobile device) can be realized in parallel.

  • Publication number: 20140324808
Abstract: A new method for semantic segmentation and tagging of a patent or a technical document is provided. The semantic tags are used for search and display of patents. The semantic tagging method involves creating automatic tags for preamble, elements, and sub-elements, and their respective attributes and relationships in patent claims. The tags are used in patent search to improve search performance. The tags are used in a novel user interface for viewing and analyzing one or more patents. The user interface provides a unique method to display different tags of a patent, which provides critical information towards comprehending the patent, and helps create better search queries related to the patent.

  • Publication number: 20140195198
Abstract: The present application discloses devices, systems and methods for establishing and utilizing a UV sensing network to harness the efficacy of distributed UV sensing to produce improved accuracy of UV exposure measurement using mobile devices. This may be accomplished by “crowd sourcing”, i.e. having multiple devices work collaboratively to measure the UV exposure. The collaboration can be implemented in many potential ways, such as, using a server based architecture where devices connect to a specific “UV measurements server” to provide measurements and receive aggregate estimated exposure levels, and/or by using a peer-to-peer architecture, where devices in a specific region creates a local ad-hoc UV sensing network.

  • Patent number: 8396147
Abstract: A MIMO transmitter and method for transmitting a group of sequential OFDM symbols on a downlink channel using a plurality of antennas is disclosed herein. Groups of OFDM subcarriers are individually modulated in accordance with spatial-frequency subcarrier modulation assignments to generate groups of symbol-modulated subcarriers, corresponding symbol-modulated subcarriers are combined for transmission on each of a plurality of spatial channels, and beamforming is performed on the combined symbol-modulated subcarriers for transmission over the spatial channels. The channel comprises a plurality of the groups of the OFDM subcarriers and the OFDM subcarriers within each group of subcarriers and within each group of sequential OFDM symbols have the same spatial-frequency subcarrier modulation assignments. The spatial-frequency subcarrier modulation assignments for each group are determined based on feedback by a receiver, which is determined from spatial channel characteristics of the spatial channels.
