  • Publication number: 20080219251
Abstract: A method of transmitting two packets to two different nodes may include encoding a first packet according to a first channel to obtain an encoded first packet and encoding a second packet according to a second channel different than the first channel to obtain an encoded second packet. The encoded first packet and the encoded second packet may be combined to obtain a combined encoded packet. The method may include mapping the combined encoded packet to symbols for transmission. The symbols may be transmitted to the two different nodes over the first channel and the second channel.

  • Patent number: 7394858
Abstract: In an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) system, a transmitter and/or receiver communicate separate data streams on non-orthogonal spatial channels. Each spatial channel may use the same set of OFDM subcarriers and may take advantage of the multipath characteristics of the spatial channel allowing the communication of additional data without an increase in frequency bandwidth. Space-frequency subcarrier modulation assignments may be dynamically assigned on a per subcarrier basis as well as a per spatial channel basis to help maximize the data-carrying capacity of the channel. In some embodiments, each of the spatial channels may be associated with one of a plurality of spatially diverse antennas. In other embodiments, beamforming may be performed to allow the transmission and/or reception of signals within the spatial channels.

  • Publication number: 20080123574
Abstract: Embodiments herein may operate at a cooperating relay station (CRS) in a wireless packet-carrying network (WPCN). A source-to-CRS (SC) link quality of an SC wireless channel may be estimated using signal quality information derived from a packet transmitted by a source station and received by the CRS. A CRS-to-destination (CD) link quality of a CD wireless channel may also be estimated using signal quality information derived from a packet transmitted by a destination station and received by the CRS. A source-to-destination (SD) link quality parameter representing SD link quality may be extracted by the CRS from the packet transmitted by the destination station. The CRS may decide whether to participate with the source station or with another CRS in transmitting an SD packet based upon the SC link quality, the CD link quality, the SD link quality, or a combination thereof. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20080080440
Abstract: Methods, protocols and systems for communicating in a multi-hop wireless mesh network may use cooperative diversity transmission techniques in combination with mesh routing. In one example, a cooperation layer may be integrated with MAC and/or PHY layers and generate a plurality of virtual interfaces for use by a mesh routing layer. The plurality of virtual interfaces may include a first interface type defining potential mesh nodes that can be reached without using cooperative diversity transmission techniques, a second interface type defining potential mesh nodes that can be reached by cooperatively transmitting with one neighbor node, and a third interface type defining potential mesh nodes that can be reached by cooperatively transmitting with combinations of two or more neighbor nodes. The mesh routing layer may select which interface to use in determining multi-hop routing based on a range and/or cost metric of a particular virtual interface.

  • Patent number: 7336719
Abstract: The present invention provides a diversity transmission system. The diversity transmission system includes a method and system of diversity transmission through a wireless channel formed between multiple transmission antennae of a transceiver and a subscriber unit. The method includes forming a stream of symbols from an incoming data stream. A plurality of the symbols are selected forming a data vector. A maximum delay spread through the wireless channel is determined. The maximum delay spread is generally determined as a multiple of a sample time spacing between elements of the data vector. A plurality of diversity vectors are generated based upon the data vector and the maximum delay spread, each diversity vector includes a plurality of elements. Corresponding elements of the diversity vectors are simultaneously transmitted, each diversity vector transmitted from at least one corresponding antenna of a plurality of spatially separate antennae.
