  • Patent number: 7151573
Abstract: Disclosed are a channel equalizer and digital television receiver using the same. The equalizer comprises a channel estimator, a channel distortion compensator and noise canceller. The channel estimator estimates an impulse response of a transmission channel from a received signal. The channel distortion compensator transforms and processes the received signal and the estimated impulse response. The noise canceller predicts and eliminates amplified noise generated during equalization.

  • Patent number: 6882373
Abstract: A VSB demodulating device and method in a DTV receiver is disclosed, in which a VSB signal is received for independent carrier wave recovery and symbol clock recovery. An A/D converter samples the output of a SAW filter with a fixed frequency and converts the resultant value to a digital signal. A carrier wave recovery portion recovers a carrier wave from a base band pilot signal output from a multiplier, and a timing recovery portion recovers a symbol clock used for a transmitter using the output of a matched filter disposed in a base band. In this case, the carrier wave recovery portion and the timing recovery portion are independently operated without affecting each other. Thus, the carrier wave recovery portion is operated stably even in case where a fatal ghost exists in a band used for timing recovery.

  • Publication number: 20040174940
Abstract: Disclosed is a channel estimator adopting masking. In a channel estimator using a CIR (channel impulse response) estimating value, the present invention includes a CIR masking unit removing a noise included in the CIR estimating value. Accordingly, the present invention is capable of filtering noises resulting from finiteness of the PN sequence used in finding the cross correlator, thereby enabling to enhance accuracy for the CIR estimating value. And, the enhanced accuracy for the CIR estimating value enables to improve tracking performance to the time variable channel of the frequency domain equalizer using the channel estimator.

  • Patent number: 6614487
Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting a synchronizing signal in a digital TV receiver which adopts a VSB mode is disclosed. The apparatus includes a correlation unit for obtaining a correlation value between a received signal for each unit of symbols and a preset reference field synchronizing signal, a maximum value detector for detecting a location of the symbol having a maximum correlation value while performing counting operation for a unit of a variable constant added to the number of symbols corresponding to one field, a synchronizing lock signal generator for generating a synchronizing lock signal by testing reliability of the symbol location detected by the maximum value detector, and a synchronizing location controller for calculating a relative location of the symbol location having a maximum value to generate a corresponding synchronizing signal if the synchronizing lock signal is generated by the synchronizing lock signal generator.

  • Patent number: 6614490
Abstract: A digital television (TV) receiver using a vestigial sideband (VSB) system, and timing recovering apparatus and method for the digital TV receiver are disclosed. The timing error can be compensated for by rapidly and accurately searching the position of the segment sync signal using the Hilbert filter even if the strong 2-symbol-delayed ghost is applied. Also, the tracking performance for the timing error and the zitter performance can be improved by extracting the timing error information even from the signal having passed through the Hilbert filter.

  • Publication number: 20020071501
Abstract: A VSB receiver and a method for processing a receiving signal in the same are disclosed, which is not subject to frequency offset. The VSB receiver includes an intermediate frequency signal generator generating an intermediate frequency band signal from a received signal; a demodulator generating a complex base band signal consisting of an I channel signal and a Q channel signal using the intermediate frequency band signal and at least one local carrier wave signal; and a complex base band matched filter filtering at least one of the I channel signal and the Q channel signal. In the VSB receiver, since a complex signal responds to a required channel of the I channel and the Q channel, it is possible to prevent performance of the system from being deteriorated by frequency offset.
