    Abstract: An apparatus and method for mapping and demapping signals in a system using a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code are provided. In the method, LDPC codeword bits are written column-wise and read row-wise, substreams are generated by demultiplexing the read bits using a demultiplexing scheme, and bits included in each of the substreams are mapped to symbols on a signal constellation. The demultiplexing scheme is determined corresponding to a modulation scheme used in the signal transmitter, a length of the LDPC codeword, and a number of the substreams.

The film type actuator includes an upper plate and a lower plate, formed of a single plate. Between the upper plate and the lower plate, pairs of electrode parts capable of attracting one another via an electrostatic force. Since each of the pairs of electrode parts functions as an operation point and the upper plate and the lower plate are formed of the single plate, movements of the respective operation points in such a way that a new physical movement different from an original individual movement is generated to generate a haptic feel or a sound. It is possible to generate various haptic feels or sounds by modulating and combining amplitudes and frequencies of the respective operation points.

A shortening pattern and a puncturing pattern are determined based on a received signal. A value of a shortened bit is set to 0 according to the determined shortening pattern, erasures are set according to the determined puncturing pattern, and LDPC decoding is performed, when bits exist which have been used to perform shortening or puncturing. Determining the shortening pattern and the puncturing pattern includes setting a predetermined ratio of the number of punctured bits to the number of shortened bits.
