  • Patent number: 7052247
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a suction muffler for compressors, a compressor with the suction muffler, and an apparatus having a refrigerant circulation circuit including the compressor. The present invention allows an amount of a refrigerant sucked into a compression chamber to be maximized, and allows suction noise generated during a suction stroke to be minimized. The suction muffler includes a refrigerant channel, and an outer casing. The refrigerant channel communicates at an inlet thereof with a suction pipe which guides a refrigerant to a compressor, and controllably communicates at an outlet thereof with a compression chamber in which the refrigerant is compressed. The outer casing has a structure to convert a flowing motion of the refrigerant into a spiral flowing motion while the refrigerant flows from the suction pipe to the inlet. At least one resonance chamber is formed around an outlet of the refrigerant channel.

  • Publication number: 20040086406
Abstract: A cylinder assembly for a hermetic compressor includes a cylinder block having a cylinder in which a piston reciprocates; a cylinder head connected to a cylinder block to seal the cylinder, the head having an inlet hole and being divided by a partition into a first and a second discharge chamber that serve as an outlet path. A valve assembly formed between the cylinder block and the cylinder head, which controls refrigerant outlet and inlet to and from the cylinder according to different refrigerant pressures inside and outside the cylinder. When a sound wave (that is created as the suction valve or the discharge valve hits the valve plate) escapes to a discharge valve through a first and second discharge chambers, sound transmission loss occurs due to boundary interference and as a result, the sound wave is reduced. By this method, noise can be reduced in operating the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6712591
Abstract: A discharge valve of a hermetic compressor includes a valve plate disposed on a cylinder head that draws in and discharges refrigerant according to reciprocal movement of a piston, and the discharge valve having a discharge hole formed therein through which refrigerant is discharged, a disc valve disposed adjacent the discharge hole of the valve plate, the disc valve being raised or lowered by the reciprocal movement of the piston and disc valve weight, and a stopper disposed above the disc valve, for guiding the raising and lowering of the disc valve and also for limiting the height to which the disc valve may be raised. The compressor is not subject to overload or over pressurization that may otherwise result from an elastic closing force operating in the valve, and as a result, compression efficiency is increased, while noise is decreased.

  • Patent number: 6702557
Abstract: A fluid compressing apparatus including a cylinder block having a cylinder bore with a diameter penetrating through the cylinder block in a lengthwise direction, a discharge chamber having a diameter larger than the diameter of the cylinder bore, and at least one fluid suction port penetrating into the cylinder block including an interconnected space comprising a fluid discharge port. A piston serves to open and close the suction port while linearly reciprocating within the cylinder bore eliminating need for a separate suction valve assembly. A valve plate separates from and opens the discharge port as a result of the high pressure of the fluid in the cylinder bore, thus compressing the fluid until completely discharged; such that the clearance volume in the cylinder bore is minimized improving compression efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5988990
Abstract: A hermetically sealed compressor includes a cylinder forming a compression chamber, and a piston reciprocally mounted in the cylinder for compressing gaseous refrigerant. A mixture of gaseous refrigerant and lubricating oil is conducted via a conduit arrangement to a suction muffler located upstream of the compression chamber. The conduit arrangement includes, at an inlet to the suction muffler, radially inner and outer tubes forming a channel therebetween. Gaseous refrigerant flows into the suction muffler through the inner tube. Lubricating oil traveling radially outwardly of the gaseous refrigerant enters the channel and is discharged from a downstream end of channel and thus does not enter the suction muffler.

  • Patent number: 5950307
Abstract: A reciprocating compressor includes a cylindrical bore in which a piston reciprocates. A cylinder head is situated adjacent an end of the bore and forms a suction chamber and a discharge chamber which communicate with the bore through respective valved passages. Fluid to be compressed enters the suction chamber through an outlet section of a muffler. That outlet section is made of a material having low thermal conductivity (plastic) and fits into the suction chamber to resist the transfer of heat to the suction chamber from the discharge chamber. A capillary tube includes an inlet end submerged in an oil reservoir and an outlet end mounted in a hole formed in the outlet section of the muffler for supplying oil to fluid entering the bore.

  • Patent number: 5890374
Abstract: An oil separator for an evaporator in a cooling system is installed between a capillary tube and the evaporator for separating oil from the refrigerant flowing into the evaporator. The oil separator comprises an inflow member connected to the capillary tube, for receiving the oil-containing refrigerant therefrom. A refrigerant outflow member is connected between the inflow member and an inlet of the evaporator, for conducting the refrigerant upward to the inlet of the evaporator. An oil outflow member is disposed between the inflow member and an outlet of the evaporator, for conducting the oil downward to an outlet of the evaporator. The oil separator prevents oil from flowing into the evaporator, thereby preventing accumulation of the oil inside the evaporator which could reduce the amount of oil disposed inside a compressor of the cooling system.

  • Patent number: 5888055
Abstract: A hermetic reciprocating compressor comprises a hermetic casing and a compressing portion installed inside the casing. The compressing portion includes a cylinder, and a piston reciprocating inside the cylinder. A suction pipe transfers a mixture of compressible and incompressible media (e.g. gaseous refrigerant and lubricating oil) into the casing. A suction muffler has an inlet communicating with the suction pipe and an outlet connected to the compressing portion. A tubular spring has a first end portion of frusto-conical shape fitted into the inlet of the suction muffler so that a space is formed between the first end portion of the spring and the inlet of the suction muffler, and a second end portion connected to the suction pipe. Incompressible medium in the mixture is able to gravitate out of the suction muffler through the space, thereby preventing damage to internal parts of the compressing portion.
