Patent number: 5957463Abstract: A metal laminate gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine. The gasket is formed of first and second metal plates laminated with each other, and a metal ring. The first plate includes a base portion, a curved portion extending from the base portion to define a first opening, a flange extending from the curved portion and located under the base portion, and second openings corresponding to bolt holes of the engine. The second metal plate is situated under the base portion, and includes a third opening greater than the first opening and fourth openings situated under the second openings. The metal ring is situated between the flange and the base portion, and includes narrow portions and wide portions alternately arranged to each other. The wide portions are located close to the bolt holes. Thus, high tightening pressures when bolts disposed in the bolt holes are tightened are supported at the wide portions.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1998Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: Ishikawa Gasket Co., Ltd.Inventor: Susumu Inamura

Patent number: 5895054Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine, especially for an engine with a cylinder liner. The gasket is formed of a first metal plate having a first hole greater than a hole of the engine, an annular ring and a sealing device. The annular ring has an inner size substantially corresponding to the hole of the engine, an outer size substantially corresponding to the first hole, and a thickness greater than that of the first metal plate. The annular ring is situated inside the first hole and attached to the first metal plate. The sealing device provides a surface pressure on the first plate outside the annular ring. Even if there is a gap between the upper end of the cylinder liner and an upper surface of the cylinder block, the annular ring can seal around the hole together with the sealing device.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Ishikawa Gasket Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoshio Miyaoh, Susumu Inamura

Patent number: 5873577Abstract: A metal laminate gasket for an internal combustion engine is formed of a first metal plate, a second metal plate situated under the first metal plate, and a plurality of annular plates. The first metal plate includes a base portion, a plurality of curved portions extending from the base portion to define first holes, and a plurality of flanges extending from the curved portions to be disposed over the base portion. Each annular plate is situated between each flange and the base portion, and has at least one flat section and at least one partial bead section disposed at an intermediate portion between the first holes. The partial bead does not extend throughout an entire length of the annular plate. Therefore, when the gasket is tightened, the surface pressure at the intermediate portion can be increased to securely seal thereat. In case the rigidity of a cylinder head is not strong, the gasket is especially useful.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1997Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Ishikawa Gasket Co., Ltd.Inventor: Susumu Inamura

Patent number: 5375856Abstract: A protecting member of the invention is used for a gasket situated between two engine parts. The protecting member includes a spring member situated between the two engine parts and located around bolt. When the bolt is tightened, the spring member abuts against the engine parts and is compressed to provide predetermined pressure to the bolt through the engine parts. Thus, when an outward force applied to the bolt increase, an amount of the outward force exceeding the predetermined pressure, i.e. the tightening pressure, is only applied to the bolt to absorb a part of the outward force. When an inward force applied to the bolt decreases, the predetermined pressure of the spring member acts against the inward force applied to the bolt. Thus, the pressure changes to the gasket is reduced to prevent creep relaxation of sealing means of the gasket.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1993Date of Patent: December 27, 1994Assignee: Ishikawa Gasket Co., Ltd.Inventors: Itsuo Ishikawa, Tsunekazu Udagawa, Hisashi Yasui, Susumu Inamura
