  • Publication number: 20060066978
Abstract: The present invention implements a magnetic disk drive usable under a wide range of temperature environment conditions, and a magnetic head assembly. The flying height of a magnetic head slider (1) can be controlled against a change of temperature so that the flying height of the magnetic head slider (1) is low at low temperatures and high at high temperatures, thereby the variations of the coercivity of a magnetic disk (2) can be cancelled. Further, by setting the rate of change of the crown value with respect to the change of temperature to 0.26 to 0.62 nm/° C., the flying height can be controlled so that the flying height becomes low at low temperatures and high at high temperatures, while maintaining the uniformity of the profile of the flying height of the magnetic head slider (1) from the inner periphery to the outer periphery of the magnetic disk (2).

  • Patent number: 6967528
Abstract: The present invention is a variable gain amplifier for amplifying a radio frequency signal by using a field effect transistor for signal amplification. The variable gain amplifier includes: an input impedance correcting means for correcting the input impedance when varying the gain at the input side of the field effect transistor for signal amplification; an output impedance correcting means for correcting the output impedance when varying the gain at the output side of the field effect transistor for signal amplification; and an amplifier bypass means for passing the radio frequency input signal to the output side by skipping the field effect transistor for signal amplification when varying the gain. According to the present invention, a variable gain amplifier is favorable in the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) at the input and output end regardless of presence or absence of gain variation, and the gain attenuation amount can be arbitrarily set.

  • Patent number: 6646831
Abstract: An air bearing slider for supporting a transducer over a moving recording medium and a method for fabricating such an air bearing slider. The air bearing slider lifts off the recording medium with a predetermined take-off velocity when the recording medium begins to move. The air bearing slider has a first etched region that has a first etch depth and a second etched region that has a second etch depth. The etch depth ratio of the first etch depth to the second etch depth provides a pad-type air bearing slider with a take-off velocity ratio that is greater than or equal to 100%. The etch depth ratio of the first etch depth to the second etch depth provides a rail-type air bearing slider with a take-off velocity ratio that is greater than or equal to approximately 70%.

  • Patent number: 6501621
Abstract: An air bearing slider supports a transducer over a moving recording medium based on air flow generated by the movement of the recording medium. A first pad is formed near a leading edge of the slider and has a first leading edge contoured to provide a first effective length relative to the air flow for the first pad. A second pad is formed near a trailing edge of the slider and has a second leading edge contoured to provide a second effective length relative to the air flow for the second pad. A third pad is formed near the trailing edge of the slider and has a third leading edge which is contoured to provide a third effective length relative to the air flow for the third pad. The first, second, and third effective lengths vary as the air bearing slider moves relative to the moving recording medium to maintain a desired orientation and fly height for the slider during such movement.

  • Patent number: 5929626
Abstract: A contact making and breaking device improves the dielectric absorption property of capacitance between one signal wire brought out from a reed switch and an conductive casing. A low current measurement system using the contact making breaking device greatly shortens the measurement waiting time when low current is measured. The contact making and breaking device includes a reed switch with first and second signal wires brought out from either end, a conductive casing, and an insulating material formed between at least the first signal wire and the conductive casing. A tubular conductor is emplaced in the region in which the insulating material is formed and at least partially encloses the reed switch. The tubular conductor is connected to the first signal wire.

  • Patent number: 5754041
Abstract: A measurement device measures voltage/current characteristics of a device under test (DUT) and suppresses spikes and overshoots which appear in an output when voltage and current settings fed to the DUT are changed, and makes possible rapid setting changes. The measurement device has a V holding loop which contains a capacitor, an error amplifier, an FET switch, a voltage-current converter, an integrator, a power amplifier, a current ranging circuit and a buffer amplifier. During ordinary operation of the circuit, the FET switch is on and the output voltage is remembered by the capacitor. When the voltage-current settings are changed, the FET switch is off, the feedback circuit of the V holding loop is formed, and the value of the output voltage immediately before the changes were performed is held, on the basis of the voltage of the capacitor.
