  • Patent number: 10932097
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein provide routing determinations for MT-SMS-over-NAS in core networks that support 5G and legacy systems. A network device stores routing priority data for multiple short message service (SMS) delivery methods in the core network. The network device receives, from a first network element, a delivery request for a mobile-terminated (MT) SMS message directed to an end device and sends, in response, a query to a second network element. The query requests a short message service function (SMSF) address for an SMSF in the core network with which the end device is registered. The network device receives a response to the query and selects, based on the response and the stored routing priority data, an SMS delivery method for the MT SMS message. The network device sends, to a third network element, routing instructions for the MT SMS message based on the selected SMS delivery method.

  • Patent number: 10917759
Abstract: A computer device may include a memory configured to store instructions and a processor configured to execute the instructions to receive a service request from a user equipment (UE) device via a wireless access network; identify a Short Message Service Inter-Working Function (SMS-IWF) device associated with the UE device; and determine that the identified SMS-IWF device is associated with a link failure. The processor may further be configured to instruct the UE device to detach based on determining that the identified SMS-IWF device is associated with a link failure; receive a re-attach request from the UE device, in response to instructing the UE device to detach; and assign a functioning SMS-IWF device to the UE device, in response to receiving the re-attach request.

  • Patent number: 10880830
Abstract: A network device associated with a wireless network receives a network service-related request from a user device. The network device accesses a service profile associated with the user device to determine if the service profile includes preemptive power saving mode (PSM) data that is designated for preempting any user device-requested or network-requested power saving modes at the user device. The network device allocates, if the service profile includes the preemptive PSM data, preemptive PSM timers to the user device based on the preemption PSM data. The network device sends, in response to the network service-related request, an acceptance message to the user device that includes the preemptive PSM timers for use by the user device in executing a power saving mode.

  • Publication number: 20200374687
Abstract: Systems and method are provided to reduce redundant data transfers for service profiles within a wireless core network. A network device in the core network receives, from a mobility management entity (MME), a user profile request. The user profile request includes a user identifier for an end device. The network device determines that a user profile corresponding to the user identifier includes a shared service profile and determines, when the user profile includes a shared service profile, whether the MME has stored the shared service profile. When the MME has not stored the shared service profile, the network device sends, to the MME, the shared service profile and a shared profile identifier for the shared service profile. The network device sends, to the MME, a response to the user profile request, the response including the user identifier and the shared profile identifier for the shared service profile.

  • Patent number: 10791452
Abstract: An apparatus, e.g. a mobile computing device, directs presence information toward a presence server (PS). The presence information includes public-safety (PuSa) specific proximity-based services (ProSe) information. The apparatus also directs to the PS a request to subscribe to PuSa-specific ProSe information of a target ProSe presentity, the request including a dedicated PuSa service ID. The apparatus may discover user equipment (UE) of the target presentity only on the condition that the PS returns the presence information of the target presentity.

  • Patent number: 10757149
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide usage authorization control for group communications. In one embodiment, a network element identifies a group communication for an end user of User Equipment (UE), and identifies a group ID for the group communication. The network element retrieves a user profile of the end user from a Home Subscriber Server (HSS), and determines from the user profile and the group ID whether the end user is a member of the group. The network element provides, on the condition that the end user is a member of the group, the group ID to the HSS and receives group usage rules for the group from the HSS. The network element allows the group communication on the condition that the group communication is permitted by one or more of the group usage rules.

  • Patent number: 10687279
Abstract: An improved method and system of optimizing handling and sending of reachability notifications for a UE is disclosed. Solutions and implementations disclosed provide an efficient mechanism for determining the timing and duration of reachability periods for a UE and as a result predicting future reachability periods. This enables sending of one notification with sufficient information to inform the network of the time periods during which the UE is reachable instead of sending a notification each time the device becomes reachable.
