Abstract: An improved method and system of optimizing handling and sending of reachability notifications for a UE is disclosed. Solutions and implementations disclosed provide an efficient mechanism for determining the timing and duration of reachability periods for a UE and as a result predicting future reachability periods. This enables sending of one notification with sufficient information to inform the network of the time periods during which the UE is reachable instead of sending a notification each time the device becomes reachable.

Abstract: A computer device may include a processor configured to detect a condition to page a user equipment (UE) device, retrieve mobility category information associated with the UE device from a mobility database, and use the retrieved mobility category information to determine a paging policy. The computer device may be further configured to select a number of base station cells to which the computer device is to send a paging message based on the determined paging policy and page the UE device using the selected number of base station cells.

Abstract: A computing device may include a memory configured to store instructions and a processor configured to execute the instructions to receive a request to generate a device group for a group of user equipment (UE) devices from an application server and identify a group of Home Subscriber Server (HSS) devices that store subscriber profiles for the group of UE devices. The processor may be further configured to send a request to a provisioning system to generate HSS subgroups in the group of HSS devices, with different HSS subgroups associated with different HSS devices and each HSS subgroup including at least one of the UE devices; receive, from the provisioning system, an indication that the HSS subgroups were generated; generate a mapping from the device group to the HSS subgroups; and process messages received from the application server for the device group based on the generated mapping.

The eDRX data may indicate to use global default eDRX timer values, subscriber-based eDRX timer values, ranges of eDRX timer values, and single-valued eDRX timer values. Each type of eDRX timer value may be provisioned on a per end device basis, a per radio access technology type basis, and/or a per application type basis.

Abstract: Systems and method are provided to reduce redundant data transfers for service profiles within a wireless core network. A network device in the core network receives, from a mobility management entity (MME), a user profile request. The user profile request includes a user identifier for an end device. The network device determines that a user profile corresponding to the user identifier includes a shared service profile and determines, when the user profile includes a shared service profile, whether the MME has stored the shared service profile. When the MME has not stored the shared service profile, the network device sends, to the MME, the shared service profile and a shared profile identifier for the shared service profile. The network device sends, to the MME, a response to the user profile request, the response including the user identifier and the shared profile identifier for the shared service profile.

Abstract: A device may receive a message en route to a recipient device. The device may provide the message to a first interworking function device associated with the recipient device. The device may determine that the first interworking function device is unavailable to route the message to the recipient device. The device may identify a second interworking function device that is capable of routing the message to the recipient device based on determining that the first interworking function device is unavailable to route the message to the recipient device. The first interworking function device and the second interworking function device may act as gateways between a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network. The device may provide the message to the second interworking function device for routing to the recipient device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling group triggers for Machine-Type Communications (MTC) services. In one embodiment, a Services Capability Server (SCS) of a network receives a request indicating a group trigger from an MTC server to activate an MTC feature in a group of MTC devices. In response to the group trigger request, the SCS queries a Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) for network policies defined for group triggers, and controls delivery of the group trigger to the group of MTC devices based on the network policies provided by the PCRF.

Abstract: Systems and methods described herein provide improved access to wireless devices in Power Saving Mode (PSM) and extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX) sleep. A mobility management entity (MME) receives a mobile-terminated (MT) short message service (SMS) paging request with a size parameter for a corresponding short message. The MME determines if the wireless device is sleeping in PSM or eDRX mode, and, if so, uses the size parameter to determine if criteria are met for local buffering by the MME. If local buffering criteria are met, the MME locally buffers the short message until a next wireless device wake-up time. The MME also receives and processes requests to implement non-standard wake-up times for individual wireless devices in PSM sleep.
