    Abstract: The invention fabricates a perpendicular recording head eliminating influence of external magnetic field and provides a magnetic disk drive having high stability by using the magnetic recording head and constructs a structure in which shield against external magnetic field is formed from a main pole via a gap layer and an edge portion thereof is recessed from a surface against a medium. By providing the shield against the external magnetic field, the influence of the external magnetic field is restrained and by recessing the edge from the surface against the medium, leakage of magnetic field from the shield against the external magnetic field to the medium is prevented to thereby prevent a magnetization signal from being erased.

A main unit includes an automatic loading/ejecting mechanism that receives the hard disk cartridge into a predetermined inner position within the main unit and ejects the same out from the position, and a microprocessor that controls storage operation for storing data in the hard disk cartridge. Before the automatic loading/ejecting mechanism performs a receiving operation, it is determined whether access to contents recorded on the hard disk can be gained, and when the access cannot be gained, the receiving operation by the automatic loading/ejecting mechanism is inhibited.

    Abstract: A control valve includes a separation portion, which is part of a rod, blocks a through hole that connects a valve chamber and a second chamber with each other. Therefore, the pressure of the second chamber is not directly affected by changes in the opening degree of the control valve. The second chamber and a valve hole forming a part of the through hole are both connected to a second pressure zone through an upstream section of a supply passage. This prevents creation of pressure difference between the valve hole and the second chamber, and thus prevents entry of foreign particles in sliding portions between the through hole and the rod.

    Abstract: A semiconductor dynamic quantity sensor detects a dynamic force and a fault diagnosis through the use of a single bridge circuit. Sensor output terminals are connected to midpoints between gauge resistors to make a combination of the midpoints at which an equal electric potential is measured when no pressure is applied to a diaphragm of the sensor. Fault diagnostic output terminals are connected to wiring patterns in the same manner as the first output terminals. One of the sensor output terminals has three selectable terminals connected to different positions of the midpoint. One of the diagnostic output terminals also has three selectable terminals connected to different positions of the wiring patterns. Accordingly, an offset voltage of the sensor output and the fault diagnostic output can be adjusted appropriately when one of the selectable terminals are selected as appropriate.
