  • Publication number: 20170070418
Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for selectively decoding a multicast subframe in a multi-user frame for a wireless communications protocol. Embodiments include transmitting a request frame including a multicast group address for a multicast group to an access point (AP). The AP can determine a multicast identifier for the multicast group based on the multicast group address in the request frame. The AP can also transmit a response frame including the determined multicast identifier to a station (STA). The STA can receive a multi-user frame containing a multicast subframe from the AP. The STA can determine whether the multicast subframe is destined for the STA based on the determined multicast identifier and a multicast identifier stored in a preamble of the multi-user frame. The STA can determine whether to decode the multicast subframe based on the determination of whether the multicast subframe is destined for the STA.

  • Patent number: 9564997
Abstract: A method for determining whether an acknowledgement received by a user equipment from an external device is a forced acknowledgement. The method including transmitting a set of data stored in an uplink buffer to an external device, receiving an acknowledgement from the external device, determining if the acknowledgement received from the external device was a forced acknowledgement and flushing out an uplink buffer if determined that the acknowledgement was not a forced acknowledgement. The determining the acknowledgement is a forced acknowledgment being based on whether an uplink retransmission collides with one or more scheduled transmission times, a Physical Hybrid-ARQ Indicator Channel (PHICH) falls between gap measurements and an uplink retransmission collides with one of the gap measurements or a TTI bundling retransmission collides with a gap measurement. If the acknowledgement is not a forced acknowledgment, a set of data stored in the uplink buffer is retransmitted to the external device.

  • Patent number: 9560598
Abstract: In order to reduce power consumption of an electronic device during wireless communication, the electronic device may transition between a baseline (simple) receiver and a higher-power advanced receiver based on network conditions and/or environmental conditions. For example, the transition to the advanced receiver may occur when it offers improved communication performance over the baseline receiver, such as when there is significant interference and a high data rate, or when there is significant interference and a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is low. Similarly, the transition to the baseline receiver may occur when the capabilities of the advanced receiver are not needed, such as when there is less interference, or when the data rate is lower and the SNR is high. In this way, the electronic device can avoid the added power consumption associated with the advanced receiver except where the communication performance offered by the advanced receiver is needed.

  • Publication number: 20170012756
Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for performing multiuser block acknowledgement in a wireless communication protocol. Embodiments include receiving a control frame from an access point (AP). A transmission mode can be determined based on a trigger information field in the control frame. Further, a data frame to acknowledge can be determined based on a block acknowledgement request (BAR) field in the control frame. A block acknowledgment (BA) frame can be generated based on the data frame to acknowledge. The BA frame can then be transmitted to the AP based on the transmission mode, e.g., at the same time another BA frame is transmitted to the AP by another station.

  • Patent number: 9544113
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for interference coordination to improve transmission and reception performance within wireless networks. In one exemplary embodiment, a wireless transmitter transmits multiple transmissions over a determined time. The receiver receives the multiple transmissions and attempts to recover the transmitted signal. Because, the fading channel varies over time for each transmitter-receiver, by combining the received signals over multiple iterations, the signal of interest will be magnified, whereas interference effects will be suppressed.

  • Patent number: 9525453
Abstract: A transceiver device may include a transmit path that generates a modulated transmit signal based on a baseband signal, and a receive path that receives a receive signal, which is subject to third-order order distortion caused by intermodulation noise resulting from a continuous wave blocker intermodulating with transmit leakage from the transmit path. The transceiver may also include a compensation path that models portions of the transmit path and the receive path, and generates a replica signal representative of the third-order order distortion according to at least a specified function and the modeled portions of the transmit path and the receive path. The compensation path also filters the replica signal and subtracts the filtered replica signal from the receive signal to eliminate the third-order order distortion caused by the intermodulation noise. The filtering of the replica signal may be performed by programmable finite impulse response filters.

  • Publication number: 20160365952
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for a hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) mechanism for wireless communication devices of a wireless local area network (WLAN) are disclosed. Methods and apparatus to determine whether a packet is an original, first transmission or a retransmission of a previously transmitted packet without decoding the payload of the packet are disclosed. Medium access control (MAC) addresses of a transmitter, such as an access point (AP), and a receiver, such as a station (STA), of a WLAN are encoded separately with a retransmission bit to indicate whether the packet is retransmitted. For an aggregated MAC protocol data unit (A-MPDU), a sequence number is included to determine which MAC protocol data units (MPDUs) of the A-MPDU are retransmitted. When retransmission is indicated, the receiver of the STA performs a hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) process to combine the retransmitted packet with previously received packets.

  • Patent number: 9490864
Abstract: A wireless electronic device having first and second baseband processors is provided. In one suitable arrangement, radio-frequency power splitters and adjustable low noise amplifiers may be form in the receive paths. The use of power splitters allow signals associated with the first and second baseband processors to be received in parallel. In another suitable arrangement, radio-frequency switches are used in place of the power splitters. The states of the switches may be controlled using at least one of the first and second baseband processors. The use of switches instead of power splitters requires that wake periods associated with the first baseband processor and wake periods associated with the second baseband processor are non-overlapping. To ensure minimal wake period collision, a wake period associated with the second baseband processor may be positioned at a midpoint between two successive wake periods associated with the first baseband processor.

  • Publication number: 20160323820
Abstract: A station (STA) of a wireless local area network (WLAN) transitions implicitly between power management (PM) modes or PM states, without providing an explicit indication of the PM mode/state change to an access point (AP) of the WLAN. Transitions include changes between an active mode and a power save (PS) mode, or between an awake state and a doze state of the PS mode. Transitions occur immediately after receipt of a beacon indicating pending data for the STA, after an offset time indicated in the beacon, or at a specific wake time negotiated with the AP. After data reception is complete, the STA transitions implicitly to the PS mode or a doze state of the PS mode, after a power save inactivity timeout period or after receiving an indication that data transmission is complete.
