  • Publication number: 20180252073
Abstract: A system for controlling flow in a wellbore can include a down-hole control module that is hydraulically coupled to multiple components of the system. The control module can include a computer, which can be preprogrammed to operate the various components in a particular sequence, and communicate confirmation or error signals to a surface location. The control module can also include a micro-hydraulic motor and pump that can that can be instructed by the computer to selectively deliver hydraulic fluid to one or more of the components of the system. The system can include isolation members such as packers, hydraulic pressure maintenance devices (PMDs), hydraulic sheer joints, inflow control devices or valves (ICDs or ICVs) and a three-position valve that can be actuated by the control module without necessitating communication with a surface location.

  • Patent number: 9652564
Abstract: Testing scale buildup in a well tool can include pressurizing separate cationic and anionic solutions, then heating the separate solutions, mixing together the solutions, and exposing the well tool to the mixed solutions. A well tool can be constructed by a) determining velocities of flow at a predetermined offset from surfaces of a geometric model representative of the well tool, b) calculating scale buildup on the surfaces based at least in part on the velocities, c) reducing pressure change per unit distance along selected ones of the surfaces having greater than a predetermined level of scale buildup, and d) repeating steps a-c until all scale buildup is no greater than the predetermined level. A method of predicting scale buildup can include inputting a parameter indicative of flow through a well tool to a mathematical model, which determines a rate of scale buildup on a surface of the well tool.

  • Publication number: 20170058666
Abstract: Dimensionality reduction systems and methods facilitate visualization, understanding, and interpretation of high-dimensionality data sets, so long as the essential information of the data set is preserved during the dimensionality reduction process. In some of the disclosed embodiments, dimensionality reduction is accomplished using clustering, evolutionary computation of low-dimensionality coordinates for cluster kernels, particle swarm optimization of kernel positions, and training of neural networks based on the kernel mapping. The fitness function chosen for the evolutionary computation and particle swarm optimization is designed to preserve kernel distances and any other information deemed useful to the current application of the disclosed techniques, such as linear correlation with a variable that is to be predicted from future measurements. Various error measures are suitable and can be used.

  • Patent number: 8757256
Abstract: An orbital downhole separator for separating well fluids into constituents of different specific gravities. Specifically, it is designed to separate water from oil or gas. The apparatus comprises a housing with a rotating member therein driven by a motor in the housing. Well fluid flows through the rotating member and is subjected to centrifugal force to separate the components. A flow conditioner is used to facilitate separation. The invention includes several different versions of the flow conditioner including an impeller, a stator and controllers for controlling the speed of the motor in response to signals related to the amount of petroleum in the water.

  • Patent number: 8706463
Abstract: A system for completing a wellbore (38) having multiple zones. The system includes a completion (42) having a plurality of landing points defined therein positioned within the wellbore (38). A service tool is axially movable within the completion (42). The service tool is coupled to a pipe string (36) extending from the surface and selectively supported by a movable block (30) above the surface. A subsurface model is defined in a computer operably associated with the wellbore (38). The model is operable to predict the position of the service tool relative to the landing points of the completion (42) based upon a dynamic lumped mass model of the service tool and a dynamic lumped capacitance thermal model of the wellbore environment.
