  • Patent number: 8419051
Abstract: Both ends of a sack-like body are fixed to fastening sections provided in a pillar-like frame in the rearmost part of a vehicle, and the sack-like body is housed along an air bag housing space in a portion of a roof. The sack-like body is composed of a fabric-made article that shrinks longitudinally when extended widthwise. At the time of a rear-end collision, the air bag is inflated by gas supplied from an inflator, and turns into an inflated body, starting from a housed state in the air bag housing space, in such a way that both ends of the air bag are supported by the fastening sections, the inflated shape of the inflated body being restricted by the sack-like body. This inflated body constrains the head sections of vehicle cabin occupants who move rearward due to the rear-end collision.

  • Patent number: 8365316
Abstract: An airbag jacket having a good fitting performance of an expanded airbag for a body in the airbag jacket where the airbag is expanded along an outer surface of the body of the wearer. An airbag 2 is provided in a manner so as to cover a waistline and both shoulders of the wearer. An inside of the airbag 2 is partitioned into a plurality of cells 2a by means of that an inner panel 3 constituting a first surface on a wearer side of the airbag 2 and an outer panel 4 constituting a second surface on an opposite side to the wearer is partially stitched by means of a line-shaped stitching portion 6. Each of the cells 2a is formed to have a shape extending in a body height direction of the wearer. Thereby, the airbag 2 is brought to be expanded along an outer surface of a body portion of the wearer as a whole.

  • Patent number: 7543677
Abstract: A system of detecting an object existing at the periphery of a vehicle is provided that is effective in reducing repair cost for a vehicle. In one form, a protection system installed in a vehicle is adapted to detect an object existing at the periphery of the vehicle through a camera sensor, determine, based on the detected information, whether the object is a vulnerable road user (person), and change the operation mode of outside protection devices according to the body size of the vulnerable road user.

  • Patent number: 7493202
Abstract: An image processing system adapted to image an area around a vehicle includes an image processor adapted to receive information indicative of an image of an area proximate to the vehicle automatically captured by an image capturing device. The image processor includes logic to analyze the information indicative of the image proximate to the vehicle and automatically determine whether the information indicative of the image of an area proximate to the vehicle is indicative of at least one predetermined environment. This image processing system can be utilized for crash prevention and crash recording. This image processing system can be utilized to identify an increased likelihood of crash and/or the occurrence of a crash and/or to implement crash avoidance and/or crash safety devices.

  • Patent number: 7264270
Abstract: An airbag constructing technology is provided that is useful for improving the protection of a driver upon the occurrence of a vehicle accident, and related techniques. The airbag apparatus to be mounted on an automotive two-wheeler has an airbag which is inflated in a driver-protecting area formed in front of the driver upon the occurrence of a front vehicle collision. This airbag has a tether connecting inner wall surfaces facing each other of the airbag. Inflation of the vehicle rear side wall of the airbag toward the driver is regulated via the tether. Inflation of the vehicle front side wall of the airbag toward the front vehicle is allowed. This tether is prepared by sewing first to third tether component pieces to each other sewn to the inner wall surface of the airbag.

  • Patent number: 7207594
Abstract: A leg protection device for a vehicle occupant is disposed inside a seat-front member of a vehicle. The leg protection device includes an air bag having a rear panel and positioned along the seat-front member and a front panel facing the occupant when the air bag is inflated, and a gas generator for inflating the air bag. When the air bag is inflated, the air bag has a vertical length at a center portion of the front panel in the width direction longer than a vertical length at a center portion of the rear panel in the width direction to obtain a curved cross section.

  • Publication number: 20070063492
Abstract: An airbag for deployment outside of a vehicle is made from a fabric that is coated on at least one of the surfaces of the fabric. The airbag fabric may be coated to increase the strength of the fabric so that the fabric is reinforced. By increasing the strength of the fabric, breakage of the airbag can be minimized. By employing an airbag that is made from a fabric that is coated on at least one of the surfaces of the fabric, the airbag is less likely to decrease in strength when the airbag comes into contact with a foreign object that presses or scratches against the airbag. The vehicle may be a motorcycle, automobile, train or other vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7174985
Abstract: An external airbag device is provided which can smoothly deploy its airbag with being caught by neither a rear edge of a hood nor a windshield wiper. A lid 8 is allowed to be displaced relative to a retainer 2 in the vertical direction because hooks 10 are movable in the vertical direction within apertures 16. When an airbag 4 is inflated, the lid 8 is lifted and is torn to open outwardly by the inflation pressure of the airbag 4 to create flaps 28, 30. The flap 28 which pivoted outwardly toward the front of the motor vehicle is laid on an outer surface of a rear edge portion of a hood 18. The flap 30 which pivoted outwardly toward the rear of the motor vehicle is laid on a cowl top 22 below the windshield 20 to cover windshield wipers 26.

  • Patent number: 7090243
Abstract: To provide an airbag apparatus in which gas from a gas generator can be prevented from directly colliding with an airbag thereof, thereby easing the requirements of heat resistance on the airbag via a gas generator that is inserted through an aperture of an airbag and is fixed to the periphery of the aperture by a band around them. A retaining member is fitted around the gas generator and is fixed to a casing by bolts. Both sides and a lower side of a portion of the gas generator where gas ports are formed are surrounded by side walls and a bottom of the retaining member as a gas-flow deflecting member. Gas spewed through gas ports are prevented from directly colliding with parts of the airbag near the gas ports.
