  • Patent number: 8312252
Abstract: A content receiver is compatible with a plurality of rights management and protection methods (RMP) devised for each content distribution system. Only the format which specifies the specification of the RMP formed of information such as content billing, security, and copyright protection, is standardized. Each content provider inputs encrypted content and rights processing information to content in a form conforming to the standardized specification. For content users, by merely being provided with functions corresponding to each RMP method in advance, even if the content is based on any RMP method, the content can be decrypted and used in the same content receiver.

  • Patent number: 8166523
Abstract: An authentication device that the user wears reads biometrics information and executes individual authentication by verification. Only when the individual authentication has been successfully performed, authentication with an external unit (such as a server) can be started. Then, only when both the individual authentication based on the biometrics information and the mutual authentication between the external unit (such as a server) and the authentication device have been successfully performed, subsequent data processing, such as payment processing, can be executed. Therefore, even if a fraudulent third party uses a stolen authentication device, because the party cannot satisfy the start condition of authentication with the external server or a PC, fraudulent transactions and other illegitimate behaviors are effectively prevented.

  • Patent number: 8095578
Abstract: A data providing system for distributing content data from a data providing apparatus to a data processing apparatus and managing said data providing apparatus and said processing apparatus by a management apparatus. In the system, the management apparatus is configured to provide a key file in which is stored content key data and usage control policy data indicating a content of rights, including permission conditions of the content data. At least a part of said key file is encrypted. The data providing apparatus is configured to provide the content data encrypted by using the content key data stored in the key file. The data processing apparatus is configured to decrypt the key file to obtain the content key data from the key file and determine handling of the content data based on the usage control policy data stored in the key file.

  • Patent number: 7761465
Abstract: To provide a data providing system able to protect the interests of interested parties of a data providing apparatus. The content provider 101 distributes a secure container 104 storing content data encrypted using content key data, content key data encrypted using distribution key data, and encrypted usage control policy data showing handling of the content data to a SAM 1051 of a user home network 103. The SAM 1051 etc. decrypts the content key data and usage control policy data stored in the secure container 104 and determines the handling such as the purchase form and usage form of the content data based on the decrypted usage control policy data.

  • Patent number: 7757101
Abstract: A SAM receives a secure container in which content data encrypted with content key data, the encrypted content key data, and UCP data designating a handling policy of the content data are stored, and determines at least one of the purchase mode and the usage mode of the content data based on the UCP data. The SAM serves as a slave for a host CPU, and is also provided with a common memory shared with the host CPU.

  • Patent number: 7720223
Abstract: A calculator system for performing duplication of contents does not necessarily perform screening, i.e., electronic watermark detection, rather, contents copy control information can be obtained otherwise. For example, in the event of copying a CD regarding which it is known beforehand that there is no electronic watermark inserted in the contents, the electronic watermark detection processing itself can be skipped as long as the CD can be confirmed to be such, thereby reducing the amount of time necessary for copying. Electronic watermark inspecting processing with heavy computation loads is performed vicariously for judging whether or not duplication of contents is permissible.

  • Patent number: 7548887
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for protecting the copyright of an information signal recorded on a recording medium such as a DVD (Digital Video Disc) for presenting the signal to the user or an information signal transmitted through transmission media such as the Internet and for preventing an illegal copy of such an information signal. To put it in detail, information on copyright protection which is read out from the recording medium and information on copyright protection which is encrypted to make the information difficult to alter is used. If both of the information do not match each other, the information on copyright protection is judged to have been altered in an attempt to play back the information signal which is obtained as a result of an illegal copy operation in which case, the operation to play back the information signal is disabled.

  • Patent number: 7366907
Abstract: An information processing device and method as well as a program storage medium, in which to determine whether or not contents can be recorded on a recording medium, the presence or absence of digital watermark information distributed associated with the contents is detected, and if the digital watermark information is present, the survival rate of the digital watermark information is detected, and it is determined whether or not the contents can be recorded on the recording medium on the basis of the presence or absence of the digital watermark information and the survival rate of the digital watermark information. In this way, it is possible to prevent effectively an infringement of the copyright on the contents that have been distributed via a network to a great number of terminal units.

  • Patent number: 7236686
Abstract: Additional information is transmitted by means of assigning a code to a particular scanning line in a VBI (vertical blanking interval). An initial value of a CRCC (Cyclic Redundancy Check Code) or a formula used to generate a CRCC is switched depending upon the type of additional information inserted in a data frame so that a difference in the initial value causes additional information other than CGMS-A (Copy Generation Management System-Analog) to be regarded as invalid, and thus the additional information does not cause an erroneous operation. However, CGMS-A has to be transmitted in the same manner in any country. To meet this requirement, the same initial value is used when CGMS-A is transmitted. This makes it possible to transmit data in a peculiar format without causing a problem regardless of a country in which transmission is performed. Besides, it is possible to transmit CGMS-A in the same manner regardless of the country.

  • Patent number: 7123752
Abstract: A personal identification apparatus is disclosed by which personal identification can be performed making use of an impulse response obtained from a pulse signal transmitted by a living organism. A pulse generation section generates a pulse, and a speaker applies the pulse amplified by an amplifier to a finger of a user touching with the speaker and a microphone. The pulse signal is transmitted to the microphone with an attenuation characteristic that depends upon, for example, a transmission distance that depends upon the length and the thickness of the finger and characteristics of the living organism such as the thickness of the flesh and the bone density. A data synthesis processing section synthesizes the pulse and an impulse received by the microphone and amplified by an amplifier. A template recording section records a template to be used as a reference of discrimination in an authentication process together with a user ID and so forth.
