Publication number: 20090262099Abstract: A display device (1) including a surface discharge type plasma display panel (2) performs an addressing operation, a sustain operation and a reset operation. In the addressing operation, address discharge of an opposed discharge form with the second electrode (Y) used as a cathode is generated between the second electrode (Y) and a third electrode (A) in a cell to be energized or in a cell not to be energized. In the reset operation, an obtuse wave pulse (Pr1) having a negative polarity is applied to the second electrode (Y) so as to generate charge adjustment discharge starting from discharge of the opposed discharge form with the second electrode (Y) used as a cathode between the second electrode (Y) and the third electrode (A).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2006Publication date: October 22, 2009Inventors: Yoshiho Seo, Koichi Sakita, Tadayoshi Kosaka, Hajime Inoue, Kazushige Takagi

Publication number: 20090244040Abstract: The present invention provides a technique relating to a PDP and capable of canceling or reducing luminance unevenness due to voltage drop or the like. In a structure of the PDP, for example, two types of cells different in discharge timing are arranged in a zigzag manner on a screen. For example, the two types of cells have different discharge gap lengths because of a difference in areas and lengths of projections of electrodes of the respective cells. By the dispersion of discharge timings of cells, the voltage drop or the like is reduced. The design characteristic obtained by the arrangement pattern is superimposed on panel manufacture characteristic, whereby luminance unevenness is cancelled or reduced in display characteristic.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2008Publication date: October 1, 2009Inventors: Yoshiho SEO, Keiichi Betsui, Tadayoshi Kosaka, Takeo Masuda, Ikuo Ozaki, Masashi Ohta, Masafumi Kamakura, Makoto Saitou

Publication number: 20080231551Abstract: On a front substrate, a dielectric layer for accumulating the wall charge is formed, and inside the dielectric layer, a first electrode and a second electrode intersecting each other are formed with a predetermined pitch. The dielectric layer is not flat but is convex at the intersection of the first electrode and the second electrode, and the thickness in the direction of the discharge space from the second electrode at the intersection is larger than the thickness in the remaining area. Consequently, since the electric field distribution at the intersection is coarser than that at places apart from the intersection when discharge is sustained by causing an electric field distribution in the discharge space through the dielectric layer, discharge occurs not at the intersection but in four positions at places apart from the intersection, so that the luminous efficiency per discharge cell is improved.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2005Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: HITACHI PLASMA PATNET LICENSING CO.,Inventors: Tomoyuki Nukumizu, Tadayoshi Kosaka, Kazushige Takagi, Yoshiho Seo, Hajime Inoue, Koichi Sakita

Patent number: 6906706Abstract: Undue power consumption is reduced in the capacitance between data electrodes during addressing in a display panel. The power consumption associated with the capacitance is reduced to half as compared with the conventional panel, because the current associated with the discharge of the capacitance is independent of the power supply in the case of a combination of “L reset”, where the capacitance between data electrodes is discharged through a backward current path on the current sink terminal side, and “H reset”, where the capacitance between data electrodes is discharged through a backward current path on the current supply terminal side.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2001Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventors: Tadayoshi Kosaka, Kenji Awamoto, Fumihiro Namiki
