  • Publication number: 20010032935
Abstract: A microstrip gas chamber comprises a gas volume, an electrically insulating substrate having a surface exposed to the gas volume, a set of alternating cathode strips and anode strips on the surface of substrate, a high voltage source for establishing a potential difference between the anode and cathode strips to thereby produce an electric field sufficient for avalanche multiplication in said gas medium in a region near the anode strips, and grid electrodes provided on the surface at each gap between the cathode strip and anode strip. The multi-grid type MSGC can offer very narrow gap between neighboring electrodes that might reduce a surface charge effect considerably. The present MSGC may be applied to the field where both the high gain and the stable operation are required.

  • Publication number: 20010034069
Abstract: An interlayer insulating film, contacts, and wirings are formed on a MOS transistor formed on a silicon substrate. Another interlayer insulating film and contacts are formed thereon. Subsequently, as a first heat treatment, a heat treatment is performed in a hydrogen atmosphere or a nitrogen- or otherwise-diluted hydrogen atmosphere at a temperature of the order of 300-500° C. for about 5-60 minutes, thereby recovering defects that occur in the MOS transistor and insulating film forming steps and the like. Then, a ferroelectric capacitor connected to either diffusion layer of the MOS transistor is formed along with wirings, electrodes, and the like. Thereafter, as a second heat treatment, a heat treatment is performed in nitrogen at a temperature of the order of 300-500° C. for about 5-60 minutes. This recovers defects that occur after the first heat treatment step.

  • Publication number: 20010032615
Abstract: A direct-fuel-injection-type internal combustion engine is equipped with an injector for injecting fuel directly into a combustion chamber of a cylinder. A controller controls the degree of opening of a throttle valve for adjusting the amount of air drawn into the combustion chamber and sets the throttle valve to a closed valve state by setting the degree of opening of the throttle valve to a degree of opening that is on the closed valve side of a post-engine start target degree of opening, when the engine is to be started. After it is determined that a start of the engine has been accomplished, the controller opens the throttle valve by gradually increasing the degree of opening of the throttle valve from the degree of opening of the closed valve state to the post-engine start target degree of opening.

  • Patent number: 6306082
Abstract: The illuminating light transmitted by the light guide inserted through the elongate inserted section is projected out of the distal end surface of the inserted section. The illuminated objects pass through the respective non-superimposed pupils of the two objective lens systems arranged in parallel within the distal end section of the inserted section and their images, which are not equal to each other are formed on the focal surface. The respective images are transmitted to the rear side by one common relay lens system having a single optical axis. The transmitted final images are formed respectively on the image taking surfaces of the image taking devices. The respective images photoelectrically converted by the respective image taking devices are processed to be signals, are displayed in the monitor and are stereo-inspected through shutter spectacles.

  • Patent number: 6305775
Abstract: Each nozzle of an ink-jet head has heaters having different heating capacities, and in accordance with the heater driven, a diameter of an ink dot formed by ink which is discharged from the nozzle is changed, thereby printing a large dot or a small dot. When multi-value image data is inputted, the multi-value image data is modulated such that a pixel having high density is printed with both the large dot and small dot. On the basis of the modulated print data, any of the heaters included in each nozzle of the ink-jet head is driven, whereby printing an image having tones based on the multi-value image data.

  • Patent number: 6305776
Abstract: The temperature characteristics of an ink jet recording head are detected, and the result of detection is utilized for detecting the ink discharge state. Also a statistical processing on the temperature characteristics detected on plural recording heads enables exact detection of the ink discharge state, not effected by the individual difference of the recording heads. Also there is detected the abnormality in ink discharge, that may occur prior to the exhaustion of ink in the ink tank.

  • Patent number: 6307450
Abstract: A millimeter wave module includes a silicon substrate with first and second cavityes formed by anisotropic etching on the silicon substrate, and a glass substrate having a microstrip filter pattern and microbumps for connecting the glass substrate to the silicon substrate. A filter is provided using an air layer as a dielectric disposed in the first cavity. An MMIC is mounted by the flip chip method over the second air layer. A coplanar waveguide is on the silicon substrate for connecting the filter and MMIC. The filter having low loss is achieved because it has the microstrip structure using air as an insulating layer. Also change in characteristics of the MMIC during mounting is eliminated because the MMIC is protected by contacting air. Accordingly, the millimeter wave module has excellent characteristics and is made using a simple method.

  • Patent number: 6306211
Abstract: In a chamber, a substrate is mounted on a susceptor and then heated to an elevated temperature. Source and diluting gases are supplied into the chamber through source and diluting gas supply pipes provided with respective flow meters. In addition, a doping gas is also supplied through an additive gas supply pipe, which is provided with a pulse valve, and a gas inlet pipe into the chamber by repeatedly opening and closing the pulse valve. In this manner, a doped layer is grown epitaxially on the substrate. In this case, a pulsed flow of the doping gas is directly supplied through the pulse valve onto the substrate from the outlet port of a pressure reducer for a doping gas cylinder. As a result, a steeply rising dopant concentration profile appears in a transition region between the substrate and the doped layer, and the surface of the doped layer is planarized.
