  • Patent number: 5367455
Abstract: A running performance control apparatus suitable for use in an electric vehicle, which is capable of restricting the running performance of the vehicle when the capacity of a battery of the vehicle is reduced to the preset residual capacity. The battery capacity reduced to the preset residual capacity is detected and a vehicle running state including the speed of a running vehicle and the acceleration of the vehicle, is detected. An operating state, including shift positions of a transmission of the vehicle and the degree of opening of a vehicle accelerator is detected. When the battery capacity is reduced to the preset residual capacity, it is determined whether the vehicle running state should be restricted.

  • Patent number: 5283513
Abstract: A battery charging device for electric vehicles with a high-voltage battery, has a first connector to be connected with a high-voltage power source outside the vehicle, a second connector to be connected with a low-voltage power source outside the vehicle, a DC-DC converter for increasing the voltage of the low-voltage power source to a voltage corresponding to the high-voltage battery and a switch for changing-over the connectors are provided. In an emergency where the residual electric energy of the battery is less than required to run the required distance, the electric vehicle can easily be supplied with electric power from other vehicles such as a gasoline engine vehicle having a low-voltage power source and charge the battery by converting the supplied voltage by way of the DC-DC converter to a voltage corresponding to the voltage of the high-voltage battery.

  • Patent number: 4889014
Abstract: A system for controlling an internal combustion engine for motor vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. In the system, engine torque is calculated from an engine speed and an engine load. Similarly, transmissible torque of the transmission is computed from an hydraulic pressure exerted on a gear clutch and a friction coefficient and an entire surface area of the clutch engageable with each other. The two torque values are then compared with each other and if it is found that the engine torque exceeds the transmissible torque, the engine torque is restricted to the transmissible torque. As a result, a shock or jolting caused by clutch slippage occurred at gear shifting or the like can be avoided and unpleasantness resulted to the vehicle occupant and undue wear to the clutch plates are thus prevented.

  • Patent number: 4819596
Abstract: An addition correction term is added to a feedback control term when an internal combustion engine is idling, a control valve is under feedback control, and an automatic transmission is in drive range (D range). The addition correction term is calculated by multiplying a predetermined constant value by at least one of several correction coefficients which are based on RPM and temperatures of the engine and vehicle speed. A learnt value is calculated based on intake manifold pressure when the internal combustion engine is in idling condition, the control valve is under feedback control, and the automatic transmission is in disengagement condition, for example, neutral range (N range). When the automatic transmission is turned into D range the existing manifold pressure is detected and the addition correction term is calculated based on the difference between the learnt value and the detected manifold pressure.

  • Patent number: 4739741
Abstract: A method of controlling fuel supply to an internal combustion engine at the start thereof. A fuel quantity to be supplied to said engine is set in dependence on a temperature of the engine when the engine is in a predetermined starting condition, and the fuel quantity thus set is corrected to an increased value by means of a correction value which varies with a rise in the rotational speed of the engine. The varying rate of the correction value is set in dependence on the engine temperature such that the set fuel quantity decreases at a first rate with a rise in the engine rotational speed when the engine temperature is higher than a predetermined value, and at a second rate smaller than the first rate with a rise in the engine rotational speed when the engine temperature is lower than the predetermined value. The set fuel quantity is corrected by means of the correction value having its varying rate set as above while the engine is in the predetermined starting condition.

  • Patent number: 4700674
Abstract: A method for controlling the valve opening period of a control valve for controlling a quantity of supplementary air supplied to an internal combustion engine during idling in a feedback manner responsive to the difference between the actual engine speed value and a desired idling speed value. When the engine is decelerating with the throttle valve fully closed, it is determined which of a plurality of predetermined engine speed values higher than the desired idling speed value, the engine speed has dropped across, and a decrease rate of the engine speed is detected at one of the predetermined engine speed. A quantity of supplementary air is determined, which corresponds to the one detected predetermined engine speed value and the detected decrease rate, based upon which the control valve is opened. Preferably, the determined valve opening period is corrected depending upon a magnitude of load of an electrical device applied on the engine.

  • Patent number: 4676211
Abstract: When the engine RPM falls below a lower limit of a target RPM of idling while an engine is in an idle operation, a control valve is shifted to the open-loop control mode instead of the conventional feedback control mode so as to enable the engine RPM range to be quickly increased up to within the target RPM of idling rotations. Said control valve is disposed in a bypass which communicates with the upstream side and the downstream side of the throttle valve in intake passage to adjust the volume of an inspired air. The solenoid current command (amount of control) for adjusting the opening degree of the control valve during the period of the open-loop control mode is set at a level higher than that immediately before the feedback control mode shifts to the open-loop control mode.

  • Patent number: 4649878
Abstract: An idling speed feedback control method for use with an internal combustion engine having electrical load equipment and a generator for supplying electric power to said electrical load equipment, said generator being driven by said engine, wherein an idling speed feedback control amount is effected as a function of the difference between an actual engine speed and a target idling speed. The method comprises the steps of detecting a generating state signal as a function of the field coil current of the generator which represents the generating state of the generator; detecting the actual engine speed; determining an electrical load correction value as a function of the generating state signal and the actual engine speed; and correcting the feedback control amount during idling by an amount corresponding to the correction value.

  • Patent number: 4637362
Abstract: A method for controlling fuel supply of an internal combustion engine includes steps of sampling a vacuum level within an intake pipe of the engine and a value corresponding to engine rotational speed at predetermined sampling intervals, generating a subtraction value .DELTA.M.sub.e between a latest sampled value M.sub.en of the value corresponding to the engine rotational speed and a sampled value M.sub.en-m sampled predetermined number of cycles before, and correcting a latest sampled value P.sub.BAn of the pressure within the intake pipe in accordance with the subtraction value .DELTA.M.sub.e. The fuel supply amount is determined according to a corrected value P.sub.BA of the pressure within the intake pipe of the engine obtained by the above correction process.

  • Patent number: 4633839
Abstract: A fuel supply of an internal combustion engine is controlled by sampling a vacuum level within an intake pipe of the engine and a value corresponding to the engine rotational speed at predetermined sampling intervals, subsequently correcting a latest sampled value P.sub.BAn of the vacuum level with a latest sampled value M.sub.en of the value corresponding to the engine rotational speed to produce a corrected value P.sub.BA, and then determining fuel supply amount in accordance with the corrected value P.sub.BA. By determining the fuel supply amount in this way, hunting of the engine rotational speed especially during idling operation of the engine is prevented.
