  • Patent number: 4729352
Abstract: A crankshaft support structure for a multicylinder internal combustion engine employing a plurality of bearihng caps with pairs of vertical and horizontal surfaces fitting mating surfaces in the cylinder block for structurally mating the bearing caps to the cylinder block. A structural bridge extends across the bearing caps and is connected through the bearing caps to the block by one set of bolts and directly to the block by a second set of bolts. A second embodiment employs a third set of bolts connecting the bearing caps separately to the block. Arcuate baffle plates form the portion of the bridge between bearing caps to inhibit oil agitation and suppress noise.

  • Patent number: 4695724
Abstract: A quadrupole mass spectrometer generates a stream of ionized particles which are modulated by an AC voltage and transmitted through a quadrupole analyzer to a detection unit. The detection unit detects at a collector electrode thereof a modulated ion current which is fed to a phase detector. The phase detector synchronizes the modulated ion current with a signal of known frequency to produce a DC voltage representative of the level of the modulated ion current. By modulating the ionized particles with the AC voltage, the S/N ratio is improved and adverse effects of external noise are diminished.

  • Patent number: 4568143
Abstract: An optical switching apparatus comprises a stationary block and a movable block. The stationary block abuts on one face of the movable block. The stationary block holds a first and a second input optical fiber and a first and a second output optical fiber. The movable block holds four coupling optical fibers each at both end portions, each coupling optical fiber being an open loop. The movable block may move from a first position to a second position, or vice versa. As long as the movable block stays in the first position, both end faces of the first coupling optical fiber face one end face of the first input optical fiber and one end face of the first output optical fiber, respectively, and both end faces of the second coupling optical fiber face one end face of the second input fiber and one end face of the second output optical fiber, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4528064
Abstract: A multilayer circuit board provided with multilayer wiring patterns as upper and lower multilayers is provided, in which on a first circuit board 24 with a first wiring pattern 23 formed thereon a copper foil 27 is bonded through an insulating resin layer 25, the patterning is carried out so as to form a second wiring pattern 33, and the upper and lower patterns 23 and 33 are connected to each other by conductive substance 34 filled within an opening portion 32 of the second wiring pattern 33. In accordance with this multilayer circuit board, the quality thereof is improved, the manufacturing thereof is carried out at low cost, and in addition, it becomes possible to form a circuit of high density integration.

  • Patent number: 4398975
Abstract: A novel conductive paste and a method of making the same in which metallic gallium is combined with a metal or alloy which forms a eutectic with gallium in an amount in excess of its limit of solubility in gallium at a specific temperature. This melt is then treated with a metal powder of a second metal or alloy which alloys with gallium to produce a higher melting alloy, the second metal powder being coated on its surface with the eutectic-forming metal.

  • Patent number: 4392811
Abstract: A gasified liquid fuel combustion apparatus for supplying a gaseous mixture of air and a gasified liquid fuel to a burner for combustion. The apparatus includes a gasifying device which comprises two spaced concentric tubes having a concentric inner tube therein. An electric heater is positioned in the space between the inner tube and the two concentric tubes and heats a chamber between the concentric tubes. Fuel is admitted to the lower rear end of the chamber and is gasified and then exits the gasifier through a nozzle connected to the forward end of the chamber. A solenoid controlled valve is operable to open and close the nozzle.
