  • Patent number: 6270569
Abstract: A Group III metal element is heated so as to melt, a gas NH3 containing nitrogen atoms is injected into a melt 3 of the Group III metal element at a temperature lower than the melting point of a nitride to be obtained, thereby producing a nitride microcrystal of the Group III element having high wettability with the melt 3 in the melt 3 of the Group III metal element. A mixture of the Group III nitride microcrystal obtained as mentioned above and the Group III metal element solution is used as a starting material of a liquid phase growth or Group III nitride powders obtained by removing the Group III metal material from the mixture are used as a starting material of a vapor phase growth.

  • Patent number: 5813933
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission has springs, which urge the movable sheaves of primary-side and secondary-side pulleys, set to achieve a pulley ratio r.sub.1 approximate to or within a predetermined range of a neutral pulley ratio r.sub.N so that a vehicle takeoff response delay is eliminated when the driver shifts the transmission from a vehicle stop range (the P or N range) to the drive range (D range). This setting prevents a vehicle from moving backward when the driver shifts from the vehicle stop range to the D range immediately after starting the engine. The pulley ratio r.sub.1 can be achieved either before or after the minimum required fluid pressure is supplied.

  • Patent number: 5393445
Abstract: A material for a rare-earth bonded magnet is prepared by coating a rare-earth magnetic powder with a heat resisting addition polymerizable thermosetting resin consisting essentially of a monomer or polymer of 2,2-bis(cyanatophenyl) propane in an amount of not more than 2 wt % based on the weight of the magnetic powder. The oxidation of the rare-earth magnetic powder is thereby prevented or retarded by triazine rings formed in the coating film of the heat resisting addition polymerizable thermosetting resin. A rare-earth bonded magnet having improved heat resistance is prepared by agglomerating the coated rare-earth magnetic powder with a binder. The heat resistance of the bonded magnet is further improved by curing the heat resisting addition polymerizable thermosetting resin in a vacuum and by adding an organometallic salt as a metallic catalyst, to thereby improve the integrity of the coating film.

  • Patent number: 5368088
Abstract: Molten metal is supplied to a pouring basin formed between cooling members, such as movable cooling drums. A closed space is formed at a meniscus area whereat any one of the cooling members starts to come into contact with the molten metal, and a soluble gas or a mixture of soluble and insoluble gases is supplied to and filled in the closed space, thereby covering the meniscus area with the gas or the mixture. This arrangement enables a continuous casting of a thin metal sheet without surface cracks and having excellent surface characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5168702
Abstract: There is disclosed a thin torque converter, fluid coupling device mounted on a vehicle. The converter which has a smaller axial dimension than the prior art converter, comprises an outer race, an inner race, a number of sprags mounted between the races, and two thrust washers. The races and the sprags are held between the washers. The sprags are wider than the inner surface of the outer race, but narrower than the outer surface of the outer race. The washers have radial outward portions bent along the side end surfaces of the outer race. Snap rings anchored to the boss of the stator of the converter prevent the washers from coming off.

  • Patent number: 5052467
Abstract: A control device for a twin-roll continuous caster, comprising a plurality of maps, each of which teaches a relationship between a thickness of a cast strip and a roll separating force under a fixed casting speed, and teaches stable casting conditions under which bulging and surface cracks do not occur. The device detects a cast thickness and a height of the molten pool and selects an appropriate map from among the plurality of maps, by the detected height, and controls the casting conditions such that a target thickness of the cast strip is obtained under stable casting conditions by using the selected map.

  • Patent number: 5004082
Abstract: A starting device for an automatic transmission for a vehicle includes a hydraulic coupling disposed between the output shaft of the engine and the input shaft of the automatic transmission. A lock-up clutch connects the output shafts of the engine and the output side of the hydraulic coupling, the output side of the hydraulic coupling being connected to the input shaft of the automatic transmission. A slip clutch is connected in series with the lock-up clutch, is disposed between the output shaft of the engine and the output side of the hydraulic coupling, and includes a plurality of friction plates and a biasing device for applying a predetermined biasing force to the plurality of friction plates to urge the friction plates together.

  • Patent number: 4913676
Abstract: A moving animal toy wherein when a motor is started upper and lower beaks are pivoted up and down simultaneously to widely open and close its beaks, and at the same time a head is slowly rotated twisting its head sideways. When a voice is uttered against the toy, it is received through a microphone by a voice recording and reproducing device and after a specified recording time elapses, the voice is reproduced by the speaker.

  • Patent number: 4838844
Abstract: An endless transmission belt is formed of a plurality of symmetrical V blocks. Each V block comprises upper and lower portions disposed approximately parallel to each other, and two pillar portions connecting the upper and lower portions. The block includes side openings on both sides, and a center opening between the pillar portions. The upper and lower portions have wavy configurations, so that the upper and lower portions have flexibility against the force applied from sheaves to the V block.
