    Abstract: There are provided a rolling machine and a rolling method in which the strip crown and shape control capability for a narrow-width strip is improved, so that the adequate strip crown and shape control capability for strips of various widths from a narrow width to a larger width can be secured. In the rolling machine, a pair of upper and lower working rolls are supported respectively by a pair of upper and lower intermediate rolls, and the intermediate rolls are supported respectively by a pair of upper and lower reinforcing rolls. The reinforcing rolls have an effective barrel length which is smaller than an effective barrel length of the working rolls and the intermediate rolls, and is larger than a width of a minimum-width strip to be rolled. The intermediate rolls are arranged in such a manner that their axes, disposed respectively in substantially horizontal planes, cross each other, and are crossed relative to the working rolls and the reinforcing rolls.

Preferably, the first guide portion comprises: a guide shaft supported on the base; and a guide bearing provided on the one side portion of the pickup in such a manner as to be slidably inserted around the guide shaft.

    Abstract: A push lock switch having a lock mechanism for use as a hazard switch or a rear defogger switch on an instrument panel of an automobile. The switch has first and second stationary members assembled together which define a space into which a movable member is slidably fitted. A push button fits over the movable member. A coil spring is mounted between the movable member and the first stationary member. The coil spring has first and second compression parts in a one piece construction with each other and urges the movable member toward the push button. A movable contacting strap is fixed to the movable member. The movable contacting member includes movable contacts and a retainer. The movable contacts slide into or out of contact with fixed contacts on the second stationary member when the movable member is pushed by the push button. The first stationary member has a bottom wall in which a recess is formed and on which a plurality of ribs are formed on the recess.

After a user inputs the recording time of information to be recorded and the recording capacity w for the recording, an average transmission rate R.sub.1 is calculated from expression R.sub.1 =w/t-.alpha. in step S4. The rate .alpha. is the transmission rate for transmitting signals other than a video signal, such as an audio signal, attached to the video signal. Data obtained by applying a DCT treatment to the video data is quantized with a quantization width corresponding to the average transmission rate R.sub.1 and this data is intermittently recorded on the disk.

A first switch selectively causes the phase locked circuit to perform the phase locking in response to the reference frequency signal generated from the reference signal means or the reproducing signal.     Abstract: A head drum for a recording and/or reproducing apparatus is provided. The head drum includes a rotary drum, a stationary drum, and a plurality of magnetic heads for recording and/or reproducing signals on a magnetic tape. A chamber is provided which includes a first circumferentially extending recessed portion formed on the rotary drum and a second circumferentially extending recessed portion formed in the stationary drum. A plurality of grooves are formed in a surface of the rotary drum which communicates between the chamber and the exterior of the head drum. In a first embodiment, the second recessed portion is eccentrically arranged to extend closer to a first position on an exterior surface of the head drum where the magnetic tape starts to wrap about the head drum than at a second position on said exterior surface. In an alternative embodiment, the second circular recessed portion has a greater depth from the first circular recessed portion at the first position than at the second position.

    Abstract: An electrical connector includes a male assembly and a female assembly matingly receiving the male assembly. Each of the male and female assemblies includes a protective member biased to normally cover the corresponding one of the male-side and female-side electrical terminals. When the male assembly is inserted into the female assembly, the male member pushes the female-side protective member into the housing of the female assembly against the biasing action imparted to the protective member. When the protective member of the male assembly is fully inserted into the housing, it is stopped by a shoulder provided in the housing. As the male assembly is further inserted into the female-side housing, it engages the inside surface of the housing. In that case, both the terminals of the male and female assemblies are exposed from the corresponding protective members and electrically engaged with each other.
