  • Publication number: 20020196580
Abstract: In a cartridge type hard disk drive, a pair of yokes with magnets as a magnetic circuit for a voice coil motor are mounted in a cartridge holder separated from a disk cartridge. When the disk cartridge is inserted into the cartridge holder, a movable coil for the voice coil motor is placed in a magnetic field formed by the magnetic circuit in the cartridge holder. In this condition, a drive current is passed through the movable coil, thereby driving a head arm actuator. With this configuration, the disk cartridge in the cartridge type hard disk drive can be reduced in size and weight. In addition, a further cost reduction and resource saving can also be realized.

  • Publication number: 20020178145
Abstract: The present invention introduces an information distribution method capable of making an information distribution business for reliably authenticating a recording medium and distributing information in a prepaid manner. For this end, ID information recorded in a read-only area is read out from a disc-shaped recording medium having a read-only area and a recording and/or reading area. Judgment (or decision) is made whether or not information distribution to the recording medium is permitted based on the read-out ID information. The signal information distributed as a result of the judgment is recorded in the recording and/or reading area of the recording medium. The recording and/or reading area of the recording medium is rewritable. In case of reading the ID information out of the read-only area of the recording medium, erasing of recorded information for the recording and/or reading area is performed at the recording position for the ID information before reading the ID information.

  • Patent number: 6262860
Abstract: A magnetic disk apparatus includes head bases placed one on another and supported for pivotal motion on a common pivot shaft, and sliders provided at free ends of the head bases and having magnetic heads mounted thereon with suspensions interposed therebetween, respectively. A coil for a voice coil motor serving as a first driving apparatus is provided on the opposite side to the sliders with respect to the pivot shaft. Second driving apparatus formed from piezoelectric elements and hinges are provided between the pivot shaft and the sliders. For faces of a plurality of magnetic disks, recording and/or reproduction operations can be performed simultaneously by integral tracking control of the sliders by the first driving apparatus and individual tracking control of the sliders by the second driving apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6144516
Abstract: In a head displacement measuring method, prior to actual data recording or data reproduction, either one of the recording head and the reproducing head is wobbled, and the test data is recorded in the disk-shaped recording medium by the recording head. Then, the test data is reproduced from the test data by the reproducing head, and displacement between the recording head and the reproducing head is detected on the basis of the reproduced test data. Thus, the displacement may be detected more easily with higher precision than with the conventional optical detecting method.

  • Patent number: 6068906
Abstract: A disc substrate molding metal mold apparatus adapted for molding synthetic resin material to carry out molding of disc substrate of an information signal recording medium. This metal mold apparatus is adapted so that smoothing layers of metal are integrally formed on the molding plane surface sides of a first metal mold serving as the fixed side and a second metal mold serving as the movable side which are butted to each other to constitute a molding portion for molding disc substrate, and uneven patterns corresponding to information signals, etc. formed at the disc substrate are directly formed at the metallic layers, thus to carry out molding of disc substrate in which the surface is flattened with high accuracy, and uneven patterns of the metal mold side are transferred without allowing local undulations and/or projections occurring on the disc surface to take place.
