  • Patent number: 6850214
Abstract: A luminance characteristic of inputted video data is determined by input video image characteristic detection sections, and polygonal line point master data and polygonal line point correction data are calculated based on the luminance characteristic so as to provide a satisfactory display state using a microcomputer and are outputted to the polygonal line generation sections. The polygonal line point data determining the output gradation characteristic is calculated in polygonal point generation sections and outputted to inter-point gradation operation sections, and operation processing is conducted by using the polygonal point data and the inputted video data in the inter-point operation sections to determine the inter-point gradation and outputted to a display panel.

  • Publication number: 20050007936
Abstract: An information recording method and information recording apparatus is capable of resolving the trade-off relation between recording density and transmittance, wherein either the reproduction (playback) signal quality or the recording sensitivity is lowered. For this purpose, a voltage is applied by way of ball bearings or slip rings to a specified layer of a medium having multiple layers. The light transmittance of the recording layer is changed by application of this voltage. The tradeoff relationship between recording density and transmittance is eliminated thereby, and the recording density and transmittance levels are both improved, so as to enhance the recording reliability.

  • Publication number: 20040202091
Abstract: Conventionally, as in the case of switching between a DVD-R and a DVD-RAM, when the method of record mark arrangement in a track is changed, the physical format of the disk is also changed. This makes it difficult to ensure compatibility between pieces of data recorded by a plurality of different methods of record mark arrangement. According to the present invention, sector address data and block address data are recorded in each sector by using wobbling or deformation of a recording groove. Then, depending on which address is used, sector data structure is modified, thereby making it possible to select an address data detection and a data structure on a disk in a single physical format depending on the purpose.

  • Publication number: 20040174792
Abstract: There are provided parts where respective addresses of grooves on both sides of a land are identical to each other, and selection marks indicating validity of the parts are disposed. The selection marks determines the validity by taking advantage of the fact that there occurs a difference in wobble waveform in the land between a case of wobble data of the grooves on both sides of the land are identical and a case of the wobble data differ from each other. In this case, the wobble address method having an advantageous format efficiency can be used in combination with land/groove recording capable of narrowing down tracks, so that a reproduction method using a large capacity optical disc capable of high-density recording can be implemented.

  • Publication number: 20040105372
Abstract: Light emitted from a laser is divided into two light waves so that the ratio of the power of one light wave to the power of the other will be appropriate. The resultant light waves are irradiated to the same track on a medium. The preceding spot is used for erasure, and modulated so that the same pattern as the one formed with a recording pulse will be formed. The high-power component of the modulated light of the erasing spot causes the temperature of a recording layer to be equal to or higher than the melting point. The medium-power component of the modulated light forms a crystallizing temperature area on the recording layer. A liquid crystal diffraction grating is used to divide power, and a power division ratio is variable and controllable.

  • Patent number: 6728197
Abstract: In the recordable type multilayer optical disk, locations of an information recording unit region and of ID or address data of adjacent plural tracks on a recording medium are configured so as to be shifted in the circumferential direction by 5 &mgr;m or more. Since an effect from a layer that is not selected can be remarkably reduced, multilayer recording/reproducing can be realized. Moreover, ID or address data do not center at the same position in reference to the circumferential direction, the effect of distortion that is generated on the disk substrate and the recording layer at the time of optical disk formation or multiple overwriting can be minimized, and design and fabrication tolerances of the optical disk are extended, and, as a result, the media can be provided with a low cost.

  • Publication number: 20040027324
Abstract: There is provided a liquid crystal display control device which can display pictures in a magnification mode by using only a memory having low-speed access and a low storage capacity. When a video signal has intermediate resolution or less, the enlargement processing is performed by a frame memory, a line memory and an enlargement processing control circuit. If the input operation and the output operation to and from the frame memory are synchronized with each other, it is sufficient for the frame memory to have a storage capacity of two lines. When the video signal has the same high resolution as a liquid crystal display panel, the video signal is output through a gate circuit to a display timing generating circuit, and it is displayed in a through mode. In this case, no processing is performed by the frame memory or the like.

  • Publication number: 20040004926
Abstract: In a method of recording information by varying the front- and rear-edge positions of a mark by integer multiples of a specific interval, the recording density is increased without narrowing the intervals of edge position variation and without being influenced by the detection dynamic range. A data cell is divided at specific intervals &Dgr;, and the front- and rear-edge positions of the mark are disposed at any desired positions at specific intervals &Dgr;. Thus the mark length and the number of positions the mark can take can be increased, so that the recording density can be increased with the same margin as that of the prior art.
