  • Patent number: 6021249
Abstract: A system for processing a picture signal, compression coding the picture signal in units of macro-blocks and packeting the compressed picture data into sync blocks for transmission or recording of the picture signal, in which a plurality of sub-blocks Y(0-3), R-Y, and B-Y contained in the same macro-blocks MB0-MB3 are distributed to different sync blocks #0-#3 and, by forming such sync blocks #0-#3, blocks difficult to quantize and blocks easy to quantize can be dispersedly distributed to the sync blocks #0-#3 in fine units and, thereby, the sync blocks #0-#3 can be averaged so as to have flatness at a high level. As a result, when quantization is performed such that the quantity of data in the sync blocks #0-#3 are equal with one another, deterioration in the quality of picture due to quantization can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5870145
Abstract: Complexity of information of a video signal is detected to control a quantizing step based on the above complexity. Difference of the said video signal is quantized with different quantizing steps in response to the control. Generated code lengths of a plurality of resultant quantized outputs are compared with a target code length. A quantization index indicative of a quantizing step is determined based on a result of the comparison. The above video signal is quantized with the quantizing step based on the quantization index. The above quantized output is subjected to a variable length encoding processing. Further, when the quantization index is determined, a value of them target quantization index indicative of a target quantizing step size allowing the target code length to be obtained is searched only between two quantization indexes respectively indicating two quantizing steps which allow two generated code lengths most approximate to a value of the target code length.

  • Patent number: 5830006
Abstract: A connector in which a wire-arranging operation before attachment of a rear holder can be omitted, while securing the function of preventing rearward withdrawal of terminals, thereby enhancing the efficiency of a connector-assembling operation. In the connector, wires are extended outwardly from a rear open portion of a connector housing, and a rear holder for preventing rearward withdrawal of terminals is attached to the rear open portion. The rear holder is slid in a direction perpendicular to a direction of extending of the wires to be attached to the rear open portion, and arranging walls are formed on the rear holder, and extend in the direction of sliding of the rear holder. When the rear holder is attached to the rear open portion, each of the arranging walls is passed between the corresponding ones of the wires extended outwardly from the rear open portion.

  • Patent number: 5774594
Abstract: Blocking means subjects pixel information of an original sample surface to blocking, a DCT circuit transforms the blocks of input data, a quantizer quantizes the DCT-treated data, a VLC circuit subjects the quantized data to variable-length coding, and a measuring circuit measures the code length based on the quantized data. Variable-length coded data or input sample data is selected in accordance with an output from the measuring circuit so that when the variable-length code content after entropy coding is greater than the data content of unit input sample surface, the input sample data itself, instead of the variable-length coded data, may used as data to be compressed, whereby the average code content is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5604494
Abstract: An efficient encoding/decoding apparatus of this invention comprises orthogonal transform element (10) for orthogonally transforming a digital signal obtained by allowing an analog signal to undergo analog/digital conversion, quantizer (11) for quantizing the digital signal which has undergone orthogonal transform processing, inverse quantizer (21) for inverse-quantizing a digital signal which is not yet caused to undergo inverse orthogonal transform processing, and inverse orthogonal transform element (20) for inverse-orthogonally transforming the orthogonally transformed digital signal, wherein rounding in even number direction or rounding in odd number direction is used in at least one of the orthogonal transform processing and the inverse orthogonal transform processing. Thus, accumulation of rounding errors at the time of, e.g., such a direct digital dubbing to repeatedly encode/decode digital signals such as video signals, etc.

  • Patent number: 5584719
Abstract: A lock release structure of a connector (23) for locking a male connector (21) with a female connector (27) having a lock portion (51) includes: a lock arm (33) formed in an outer surface of the male connector and having a lock projection (49) engaged with the lock portion (51) of the female connector when both the male and female connectors are locked with each other; and two lock release operation walls (39) formed on both sides of a free end (35) of the lock arm (33). Each of the lock release operation walls is formed with an inner lock engagement release surface (43) brought into contact with one of two free end side surfaces (37) of the lock arm, when the lock release operation walls are depress toward each other, to deform the lock arm by a predetermined distance and thereby to release the lock projection of the lock arm from the lock portion (51) of the female connector. The lock arm can be prevented from being released by an inadvertent external force and is protected from an excessive external force.

  • Patent number: 5510785
Abstract: Generating a plurality of tables based on a condition series, such as non-zero coefficient size groupings, by repeatedly executing an operation in which the quantization step of a quantizer is controlled by supplying the total code word length generated by a variable length coder to the quantizer. Coefficient data is coded by selecting a table based on a preceding condition series and the current condition series is coded based on the selected table. Thus, the total code word length is decreased. The coding apparatus includes a Huffman table generating apparatus, a transform circuit, a quantizer, and a variable length coder having a memory for storing the Huffman tables for every condition series.

  • Patent number: 5487678
Abstract: A connector housing assembly used for connection in an electrical wiring and having a pair of connector housings capable of being fitted to each other. A locking arm is provided on one of the pair of connector housings, while a lock hook capable of receiving the locking arm is provided on the other connector housing. The locking arm extends in the direction of fitting of the connector housings and forms a free end portion at its fitting end. The locking arm has an engagement projection and an operating lever extending in the direction opposite to the direction toward the free end. To detach the connector housings from each other, the operating lever is moved upward to be rotated on a fulcrum so as to downwardly move the free end portion of the locking arm, thereby unlocking the locking arm. Thus, a locking arm having an operating lever is provided to form a lock mechanism improved in handling, which enables a pair of connector housings to be easily fitted to or detached from each other.

  • Patent number: 5395466
Abstract: A back pasting apparatus which uses a back pasting adhesive tape and is intended to make the apparatus compact and to improve back pasting quality. A guide rail (16) movable back and forth with respect to a frame (14) is provided. A paper table (15) arranged opposite to the guide rail (16) is biased by a spring or the like in the direction of the guide rail (16). The guide rail (16) and a clamp (22) are driven by a drive mechanism. First, a back pasting adhesive tape (30) is fed by a tape feeder into the guide groove (19) of the guide rail (16). As the clamp (22) lowers, the cover of papers (17) is pressed against the adhesive tape (30). The guide rail (16) is moved down along the grooves (20, 20) before being moved forward. As a result, only the paper table (15) is pressed down and moved back so that the adhesive tape (30) is pressed against the back and back cover of the papers (17).

  • Patent number: 5389973
Abstract: A quantization control circuit determines an optimum scaling factor for quantizing orthogonal transformation coefficient data that correspond to a predetermined time period of a digital video signal. A first scaling factor is determined from the orthogonal transformation coefficient data as a function of whether a bit rate determined by quantizing the orthogonal transformation coefficient data using an initial scaling factor is greater than a target bit rate. A corrected scaling factor is determined by calculating second scaling factors that are each derived from the first scaling factor. Error values are calculated from the second scaling factors using the orthogonal transformation coefficient data, and the second scaling factor that corresponds to the minimum error value is selected as the corrected scaling factor.
