  • Publication number: 20020144512
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor has a control valve for controlling the displacement of the compressor. When the pressure in a discharge chamber of the compressor (discharge pressure) is equal to or higher than a first threshold value, a controller sets a duty ratio, which is sent to the control valve, to zero % to limit the discharge pressure. As a result, the compressor displacement is minimized and the discharge pressure is lowered. Therefore, the pipes of an external refrigerant circuit does not receive excessive load based on high discharge pressure. When the displacement of the compressor is minimized, circulation of refrigerant in the refrigerant circuit is stopped and refrigerant containing lubricant circulates within the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6420281
Abstract: One or more capacitors are formed using thermally oxidized films formed on a silicon layer of an SOI substrate. The capacitors may be formed alone or together with other semiconductor elements on a single SOI substrate. A diffuse layer having an impurity in a high density is first formed on the silicon layer, and then an oxidized film is formed on the diffused layer by thermal oxidation. Then, contaminants in the oxidized film are driven-out under a high temperature heat treatment, thereby to improve quality of the oxidized film, such as durability against a high voltage. Plural capacitors may be formed using oxidized films having a respectively different thickness, by repeating thermal oxidation and removal of the oxidized film.

  • Patent number: 6338613
Abstract: A housing includes a crank chamber and cylinder bores. Pistons are accommodated in the cylinder bores. A drive shaft is supported by the housing to pass through the crank chamber. A lug plate is fixed to the drive shaft. The pistons are coupled to the lug plate, which converts rotation of the drive shaft into reciprocation of the pistons and compresses gas in the cylinder bores. A thrust bearing is located between the housing and the lug plate and transmits a thrust load applied to the lug plate. The thrust bearing includes a front race located next to the housing, a rear race located next to the lug plate, and rollers located between the front and rear races. A front seat for supporting the front race is formed on the housing. A rear seat for supporting the rear race is formed on the lug plate. The diameters of the front and rear seats are different, which causes elastic deformation of the races when a thrust load is applied.

  • Patent number: 6290470
Abstract: A shaft sealing assembly for a compressor includes first and second lip rings, each of which is disposed around a shaft of a compressor to provide sealing. A retainer ring is disposed between the two lip rings to retain the shape of the first lip ring, which serves to allow leakage of fluid when the shaft rotates and prevent the leakage when the shaft is stopped. The three rings are held together at the radial portions of the rings. Each of the radial portions of the two lip rings extends outwardly beyond the radial portion of the retainer ring, providing an annular contact area. The two lip rings resiliently contact one another in the contact area. An annular projection is provided on at least one of the lip rings in the contact area to ensure the sealing.

  • Patent number: 6217293
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor includes a swash plate, which is rotatably supported on a drive shaft in a crank chamber. The crank chamber is connected to a discharge chamber through a pressurizing passage. An electromagnetic control valve is located in the pressurizing passage. When the control valve opens the pressurizing passage, pressure in the crank chamber increases and inclination of the swash plate decreases. When the control valve closes the pressurizing passage, the pressure in the crank chamber decreases and inclination of the swash plate increases. A fixed restrictor is located in the pressurizing passage. When the control valve suddenly opens the pressurizing passage, the fixed restrictor limits the flow rate of gas in the pressurizing passage so that the pressure in the crank chamber gradually increases. Accordingly, the inclination of the swash plate gradually decreases, thus reducing vibration and noise.

  • Patent number: 6123514
Abstract: A sealing structure for the shaft of a compressor. The sealing apparatus includes an inner ring, and outer ring, and a support ring. The inner ring and the outer rings have flexible annular lips that contact the surface of the rotary shaft. The support ring supports the inner lip and determines the position of the inner lip. The first lip permits fluid leakage along the surface of the shaft, while the second lip forms a fluid-tight seal with the shaft. The support ring prevents the internal pressure of the compressor from pressing the first lip against the shaft with excessive force, which extends the life of the sealing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5785502
Abstract: A swash plate tiltably supported on a drive shaft is controlled by adjusting the pressure in a crank chamber. When an electromagnetic valve is de-excited, the high-pressure refrigerant gas in a discharge chamber is supplied to the crank chamber so that the inclination angle of the swash plate is shifted to its minimum inclination from its maximum inclination. An open/close mechanism located in a suction passage gradually opens or closes the suction passage in accordance with the differential pressure between the pressure in the external refrigeration circuit located upstream the open/close mechanism and the pressure in a suction chamber. When the inclination angle of the swash plate is minimized, the open/close mechanism closes the suction passage. It is therefore possible to prevent frosting while also suppressing rapid changes in load torque.
