  • Patent number: 11458287
Abstract: Devices are provided with an internal dimension that can be reduced and increased in vivo. In one example, an interatrial shunt for placement at an atrial septum of a patient's heart includes a body. The body includes first and second regions coupled in fluid communication by a neck region. The body includes a shape-memory material. The body defines a passageway through the neck region for blood to flow between a first atrium and a second atrium. The first and second regions are superelastic at body temperature, and the neck region is malleable at body temperature. A flow area of the passageway through the neck region may be adjusted in vivo.

  • Publication number: 20220288312
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for treating a condition associated with a Parkinson's disease (PD) subject, for example for treating or ameliorating motor and/or nonmotor symptoms or disorders in Parkinson's disease patients. An example system may include a sleep sensing circuitry and a drug dispensing device. The sleep sensing circuitry may be used to detect a sleep pattern of a PD patient, and the drug dispensing device may be used to continuously deliver a therapeutically effective compound to the PD patient based on the sleep pattern. Operational parameters of the drug delivery device (e.g., drug delivery flow rate and drug delivery timing) may be pre-programmed prior to bedtime and/or be adjusted in real time, for example during sleep, based on the detected sleep pattern to treat a condition associated with the PD subject, for example to optimize sleep, improve sleep quality, ameliorate non-motor disorders in the treated PD patient, etc.

  • Publication number: 20210402500
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus and method for Orbital welding of pipes or pipe segments together to form a pipeline, i.e., Orbital welding. A scanner welding unit, a control unit and a welding unit are combined to travel along and above a seam, which is formed between two interfacing base/cylindrical surfaces of every two pipe or pipe segments, scan the pipes/pipe segments relative positioning, alignment and levelling, and their surface geometry and topography and overlay a welding material starting from the root layer at the bottom of the seam and up to its edge and sealing it with a capping layer. The welding unit lowers a welding tip into the seam that may rotate on its axis at different angels relative to the surface during welding. The scanner unit may alert on mismatches on the relative position of the pipes/pipe segments before or after welding and in some cases enable repositioning for a more hermetically sealed weld.

  • Patent number: 11191959
Abstract: The invention provides a system for inhibition or treatment of an aberrant neurological event in a subject. The system comprises: one or more detectors; a controller; and one or more stimulators of the vagus nerve. The invention also provides a method for treating and preventing epileptic seizures and the onset or pre-onset of epileptic seizures. The method includes the steps of: collecting signals from each of one or more detector indicating the presence of a repetitive movement; analyzing signals received from the one or more detector to determine the intensity of the stimulation of the auricular branch of the vagus nerve (ABVN) required to control, moderate or prevent current and future repetitive movements; and when required, signaling one or more stimulator to stimulate the ABVN so that the repetitive motion ceases using the determined stimulation intensities.
