  • Patent number: 9792876
Abstract: In one embodiment, a computing device receives a request from a mobile device of a user for an image. The computing device determines whether the user is associated with a preferred orientation for viewing an image. The preferred orientation is determined based on the user's usage patterns with respect to a particular application of the mobile device, or to the user's interactions with a social-networking system. If the user is associated with a preferred orientation, the image is adjusted to have the preferred orientation and to match display capabilities of the mobile device sending the request. The adjusted image is sent to the mobile device for display.

  • Publication number: 20170217079
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for preparing stable 3D polymer objects with surface micro-nanostructures. The method includes the following steps: Step (1): Synthesizing a thermoset 2D polymer object with surface microstructures. The polymer network contains reversible exchangeable bonds. Step (2): deforming synthesized polymer to an arbitrary desired shape above the reshaping temperature with an external force applied. The permanent reshaping temperature falls in the range of 50-130° C. and external stress is held for 5 min-24 hours Step (3): after cooling, a permanent 3D polymer object with surface microstructure is obtained. Step (2-3) can be repeated for many cycles and the 2D polymer object can be arbitrarily and cumulatively deformed to get a complex 3D structures. The polymer networks contain reversible exchangeable bonds and bond exchange catalysts in the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20170210055
Abstract: The disclosure provides a system of thermoset shape memory poly(urea-urethane) with permanent reshaping property and its application. The breakthrough of the present invention is that the reshaping temperature can be tuned in a wide range by incorporation of urea bonds into the polymer network. The permanent shape for shape memory poly(urea-urethane) can be repeatedly and cumulatively reshaped at certain temperature, largely facilitating the fabrication of complex structures.

  • Publication number: 20170197356
Abstract: The present invention discloses the fabrication and application of a shape memory polymer possessing transesterification-induced permanent reshaping. The ester-containing crosslinked polymer is obtained by crosslinking ester bearing polymer precursors or by reaction of monomers which yield ester bonds. The transition temperature falls between 20-150° C. The reshaping temperature is tuned by catalyst amount and should be 20° C. above the transition temperature. The breakthrough of the present invention lies in integrating shape memory effect and plastic deformation into the same polymer and triggering the respective function at different occasions. The permanent shape of as synthesized polymer could be modified arbitrarily and cumulatively. Therefore, the hierarchical structure which could not otherwise be obtained due to the limit of mold fabrication process should expand the practical application of SMPs.

  • Patent number: 9583767
Abstract: Methods for making battery electrode system are disclosed herein. In an example of the method, a mixture of a polymer binder, an active material and a conductive filler is deposited on a current collector. The deposited mixture is exposed to an external field having a field direction that is normal to a surface of the current collector. The exposure aligns, outward from and normal to the surface of the current collector, the active material and the conductive filler to form a plurality of discrete structures that extend outward from and normal to the surface of the current collector and are respectively aligned with a field line of the external field. Each of the plurality of discrete structures includes some of the active material and some of the conductive filler.
