  • Patent number: 7942819
Abstract: An ultrasonic bone evaluation apparatus includes stationary and movable standoffs fitted with respective ultrasonic transducers for transmitting and receiving ultrasound, a moving mechanism for moving the movable standoff, an encoder, a controller, and an inner temperature sensor for determining the temperature of an inner tissue of a body part. The moving mechanism moves the movable standoff toward the stationary standoff to sandwich the body part therebetween. The encoder measures the distance between the two transducers whereas the controller determines the time required for the ultrasound to travel between the transducers when the body part is sandwiched between the standoffs. The controller calculates the speed of sound propagating through the body part from distance and time measurement values, corrects the speed of sound through the body part based on the temperature of the body part measured by the inner temperature sensor, and evaluates the bone of the body part based on the corrected speed of sound.

  • Patent number: 7227978
Abstract: An image input device 1 includes a rotating roller 4 supported so as to be freely rotatable around a rotational axis thereof, wherein the roller 4 includes a line image sensor 3 and a Selfoc lens array 6 which are mounted not to rotate in the rotating roller 4 by a holder 51. The holder 51 functions as a light guide to introduce the light emitted from light emitting elements 52 to a finger 200 which is pressed against the peripheral surface of the rotating roller 4. Selfoc lens array 6 forms a one-dimensional optical image of the portion of the finger 200 which is in contact with the peripheral surface of the rotating roller 4, on the line image sensor 3, so that the line image sensor 3 obtains the one-dimensional optical image. Then, the one-dimensional optical images are combined by a composite buffer 15 in order, to create a two-dimensional optical image of the finger 200.

  • Publication number: 20050014591
Abstract: A toothed belt, as commonly employed in power transmission and timing devices, is configured of distinctly colored components, especially in that the tooth cloth covering material and underlying rubber structural elements are colored distinctly from each other with non-black colors. The wear and tear of the toothed belt is revealed by a characteristic color appearance that arises due to abrasion, erosion, or deterioration of the toothed belt, and which can be readily assessed by visual inspection to provide an estimate of remaining useful operating life of the belt. Further, the construction of the toothed belt to provide a visual indication of its condition, does not compromise the durability of the toothed belt itself.

  • Patent number: 6642959
Abstract: A digital camera stores captured picture data and E-mail address data inputted from a key entry unit in a flash memory so that they are associated with each other and then transfers the picture data and the E-mail address data to a personal computer via an I/O port or an infrared communication unit. The personal computer receives the picture data and the E-mail address data transferred from the digital camera via an I/O port or an infrared communication unit. The received picture data is then transmitted to a destination terminal on a computer network on the basis of the received E-mail address data.

  • Patent number: 6375590
Abstract: A toothed belt particularly suitable for use in general industrial machineries includes a cured rubber belt body, a tensile member embedded in the belt body, and a tooth fabric adhered to the surface of teeth of the belt body. The belt body is formed primarily from a vulcanizable rubber composition containing hydrogenated nitrile rubber and zinc polymethacrylate. The zinc polymethacrylate and the hydrogenated nitrile rubber are blended together in a ratio of from 22:78 to 45:55 parts by weight. To the vulcanizable rubber composition, a vulcanizing agent comprised of peroxide and a reinforcer comprised of carbon black are added, and a mixture is vulcanized and pressed or otherwise molded to form the afore-said cured rubber belt body with the tensile member embedded therein. The tensile member is made of high-strength glass fibers. The glass fibers preferably have a resorcin-formalin-latex layer and an overcoat layer both formed thereon.
